Features

Dual-Monaural Class AB Amplifier: The Mark Levinson No5302 is a powerful, fully-discrete, direct-coupled, dual-monaural, class AB amplifier that can be configured for stereo or monaural operation. The No5302's bridgeable dual-monaural amplifier design can effortlessly power two loudspeakers or be configured to power just one. This gives you the option of adding a second amplifier for twice the power, so you have the ultimate control over your high-end audio system and listening experience.

  • Stereo Mode:
    • 8-Ohm: 135 watts x 2 channels @ 20-20kHz with <0.35% THD (both channels driven)
    • 4-Ohm: 270 watts x 2 channels @ 20-20kHz with <0.35% THD (both channels driven)
  • Bridged Mode:
    • 8-Ohm: 275 watts x 1 channel @ 20-20kHz with <0.3% THD (one channel driven)
    • 4-Ohm: 550 watts x 1 channels @ 20-20kHz with <0.3% THD (one channel driven)

Note: Use the "Stereo/Bridged" selector switch on the back of the amplifier to select Stereo or Bridged mode. The mode can only be changed when the unit is in Standby. Please make sure the speakers are wired correctly for the selected mode. The switch will illuminate when the unit is on and set to bridged mode.

Robust Toroidal Transformer: The No5302 contains a robust power supply that delivers just the right amount of power at just the right moment, so you can experience explosive dynamics and subtle details without distortion. The fully discrete, direct-coupled, class AB amplifier channels get their power from an oversized 1100VA toroidal transformer with individual secondary windings for the left and right channels. The voltage gain stage employs a topology directly descended from the Mark Levinson's acclaimed No534 amplifier, which is mated to an output stage comprising two high-speed driver transistors operating in a class A and six 260V, 15A output transistors. Two Thermal-Track devices in a unique configuration guarantee stable output bias regardless of load or temperature. Four 10,000-microfarad capacitors per channel, located directly on the output stage circuit board, easily deliver an abundance of power instantly, no matter how demanding the music or the loudspeaker.

Pure Path Circuitry: Mark Levinson's Pure Path circuit design maximizes audio signal integrity with exceptional accuracy and sonic clarity from this high-end stereo power amplifier. This proprietary approach to circuit design delivers uncompromising musical purity and an engaging listening experience. By using discrete components carefully selected for their precise function, the No5302 delivers unmatched sound quality that captures the nuances of every note.

Elegant Design: With bold geometry and luxurious finishes, the No5302 is as elegant as it is powerful. The solid aluminum panels flow seamlessly into a sleek glass display. A large standby button is bordered by an understated ring light that indicates the power state. Cosmetic-grade external heatsinks and solid aluminum handles accentuate the robust and luxurious design elements. Together, these beautiful details come together to create a stunning, high-quality amplifier that completes your audio system.

Balanced & Unbalanced Inputs: The Mark Levinson No5302 is outfitted with both balanced & unbalanced analog audio inputs to connect to your preamplifier (such as Mark Levinson's No5206 dual monaural preamplifier; sold separately). There is one stereo balanced XLR input and one stereo unbalanced RCA input. Balanced connections guard against induced noise and allow long cable runs without compromising sound quality. When using the No5302 in bridged mode, use the left channel input only and set the Stereo/Bridged mode switch to Bridged.

Note: A small toggle switch selects the grounding appropriate for either the balanced (XLR) or single-ended (RCA) input connector(s). Make sure the toggle switch is set all the way to the position closest to the connector you are using. The switch does not select the connectors; it only changes the grounding to suit the selected connector.

Binding-Post Speaker Terminals: The No5302 utilizes gold-plated, high-current loudspeaker binding posts. The positive binding posts, labeled + (positive), are red; the negative binding posts are black and are labeled - (negative). The binding posts can accommodate speaker cables terminated in untinned bare wire (up to 10AWG), spade lugs and banana plugs (single only).

Note: When using the No5302 in bridged mode connect the speaker positive (+) cable to the left channel red (positive, or +) binding post, and the speaker negative (-) cable to the right channel red (negative, or - bridged) binding post. Use only the two red binding posts for bridged operation. Make sure to set the Stereo/Bridged mode switch to Bridged.

Control Ports: System integration and communication ports include Ethernet, RS-232, IR input, and 12V trigger In/Out.

  • Ethernet: This RJ45 jack supports connection to a home network via Cat5e or CAT6 Ethernet cable and allows you to access the Setup menu and other controls via a browser-based setup panel on your laptop or desktop computer.
  • RS-232: This DB9F connector provides serial control through a standard RS-232 protocol. Click here for RS232 code data.
  • IR Input: This 3.5mm minijack port accepts IR (infrared) control signals from other equipment.
  • 12V Trigger In/Out: The No5302 is outfitted with a 12V Trigger input (3.5mm) and output (3.5mm). These 12V triggers can be used to link other components in your system that also offer 12V triggers, so they turn on and off with one another.

Standby Modes: The Standby mode has three settings that can be selected via the Setup menu - Green, Power Save, and Normal.

  • Green: This mode removes power from almost all of the amplifier's circuits, allowing the unit to be activated only via a wired IR control signal, a 5V - 12V trigger or a double press of the Standby button. This mode provides maximum power conservation and is the factory-default Standby mode.
  • Power Save: This mode removes power from the audio circuits but keeps the control circuitry powered and ready to receive commands from the front panel controls, or the web-browser Browser Setup Page (BSP). This mode provides moderate power conservation.
  • Normal: This mode mutes the amplifier's audio outputs but keeps all of its control and audio circuits powered. This mode provides the least amount of power conservation but allows the N0 5302's audio circuits to remain warmed up to deliver optimal performance at all times.

Note: The No5302 has an Auto Off feature that automatically places it into the Standby mode after 20 minutes of no user control input or audio signal passing through the unit. The factory default setting for the Auto Off feature is On (engaged) as required for certain regions. You can disable the Auto Off.

Protection Circuitry: If the No5302 encounters a potentially damaging condition, its built-in protection circuitry will shut off the amplifier and the front-panel display will show error messages listed below.

  • DC Detected: The indicated amplifier channel has detected DC on the output, which can damage speakers.
  • Over Temperature: Indicates the amplifier channel has exceeded thermal limits.
  • Over Current: Indicated amplifier channel has exceeded current limits.

Firmware Updates: The rear-panel USB (type-A) port allows you to perform firmware upgrades that may be offered in the future, and to import and export setup configurations via a standard USB thumbdrive (FAT32 formatted). Firmware updates may also be accomplished via download when the unit is connected to a local area network (LAN) via an Ethernet cable.

Note: The installation process for firmware updates takes at least 15 minutes and should never be interrupted.
