RS250A looks great and really tightens up your sound experience

Will from CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA on 3/26/2025

Really cool piece of equipment! After using my music streaming apps (Spotify, SXM, and Tidal) with the unit I noticed a considerable upgrade in sound while also using a pair of some older Monster RCA cables. I spent a lot of time using the "RoseTube" function via HDMI output to my TV which was a very cool feature. The HiFi Rose version of YouTube actually emphasizes the videos with the highest audio quality at the top of the list which was great. My only complaint is that the app is a bit too clunky with small icons and is a bit irritating to navigate. Overall, a very neat product, that looks very cool and would be a great addition to audiophile systems.

Pros: Nice touchscreen that works great and is great to look at. Excellent sound quality upgrade for streaming and the RoseTube/YouTube feature through HDMI to your TV is a very cool feature.

Cons: App is a bit clunky to navigate.

The Rose app hurts..

For the most part I love my Rose, but. I use Tidal. I like to listen to new albums on Tidal. The Rose app does not allow this, if you hit play on an album, it plays the first song, and then plays random songs from the same artist! It is maddening! Fix that, and it's 5 stars...

Pros: Good screen display, good sound..

Cons: The app is horrible...

Hardware is fantastic, sound quality well worth it. Could use balanced outputs and more than 1 would be nice too. The unit is ultra quiet and stable. The software however is quirky and difficult. Could use more refinement but it does work and well. I would give hardware 5 stars, overall 4 stars

Pros: Great hardware

Cons: Software needs refinement

Solid piece of kit, very good construction. The sound is very good and presently sourced from Qobuz and from the recently purchased HiFi Rose RSA780E CD Drive. I am listening only through the Focal Clear Mg headphones, also recently purchased. A rather fine sounding setup. The quietness and resolution is amazing and my favorite traits. Ease of operation is poor for this new-to-streaming kinda old fashioned retired guy. The user manual is abysmal. Lots of info on the web of course, but a lot of work too. I do dislike it so. It does not have to be this way.

Pros: Build quality. Outstanding.

Great Addition To My Traditional Stereo System

Karl Erik Cr from Raleigh, NC on 4/9/2024

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Great addition to my 1980's stereo system. Purchased an open box item to save some money on this rather expensive item. The RS250A has lived up to its worth. I'm able to stream HiRes music easily with the many output options available. I use the wifi connection to access the internet with no drop outs. Presently I am using the USB output to a USB input into a remote DAC. It sounds fantastic. The RS250A DAC is high quality itself. Mostly using Tidal, Apple Music and radio streaming local stations I otherwise have had difficulty listening to. Rose forum provides access to like minded individuals to solve an issues you may encounter; example, requested addition of my city in time and weather was quickly added. This unit does so much more than just streaming music. I don't know that I will ever experience its full potential.

Pros: Sounds incredible Rose forum available to work through issues you encounter

Cons: Short learning curve on how to use functions. Addition Radio Stations to your favorite list is a bit time consuming as the URL radio stream must be found and typed in completely. No cut and paste options.

Amazing

Purchased as a Christmas gift for myself. Plus a great deal as scratch and dent. Win win there as the unit is perfect in every way. Best streamer I have ever used. Sound is amazing. Get to know how to use it and read the manual. Well worth that effort. The manual is not difficult at all. There are many features and settings which enable one to squeeze out every drop of high performance. Play and fiddle with this streamer. You will enjoy every minute with it. I am running Qobuz and Tidal and have a virtually infinite amount of high resolution music at my fingertips. This component and what it enables an audiophile to presently enjoy, would have been unthinkable a few short years ago.

Pros: Worth every penny. Chock full of features, capabilities, and adjustments.

Cons: None.

Overall, Good, but Glitchy

Paul from FOUNTAIN, CO on 10/13/2023

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

The sound is great. It has a lot of functions. I got a great deal on this as a "scratch and dent".....Cosmetically, it looks great. It seems to be built well, looks good and sounds good. I think it works ok, but there are some weird glitches. There are settings upon settings that could be set up, witch makes me wonder if the settings I have picked, are causing the glitches. For example, I turn the unit off and the clock turns on. If I want the clock off, I turn it off a few times on the app and the clock finally goes off. The app on the phone has a hard time acquiring the 250A. RoseTube is kind of weird. Another glitch, if I go away from the app on the phone, it disconnects the source you are on, at least optical in. There is a lot to this thing. I don't expect to totally understand it for awhile.

Pros: Sounds good, looks good and built well I like the app on my phone, but see cons Rose Radio and "tuner" is neat and cool VU meters are cool

Cons: It doesn't have Amazon Music! Can be complicated to set some things up Lots of terms in the manual that you may not know unless you are a thoroughly immersed in this stuff App can be glitchy A voice capability would be good. Not a wide variety of "stations" on Rose Radio for local more rural areas Doesn't seem to show "quality" of music you are playing

Exceptional A/V Streamer

Clarence from CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA on 9/21/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Fantastic sound quality with unique ability at this performance level to also handle video. RoseTube YouTube client is super cool - kinda amazed I haven't seen this from other brands. I mean I love my Apple TV 4K for video streaming, but the RoseTube is next-level excellence. That said, best SQ realized with TV out & LCD screen turned off. Comprehensive control from both the touchscreen & app. A few minor gripes include lack of native DSD output on HDMI (PCM-only), no gapless playback for DSD files (tested via USB HDD & DLNA server), and only one audio output type can be active (e.g. HDMI, USB, SPDIF, or analog) - adds an extra step for home theater bypass setups (but active output can be selected conveniently from the app).

Great all rounder streamer

Nicolas from San Rafael, CA on 9/18/2023

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I'm no audiophile so I can't speak to the fidelity of sound across every possible input or output but I can testify to the build quality and breadth of features that this little box delivers. I'm using it with powered speakers and it has significantly increased the reliability of the sound quality coming from the connected Rose CD player, Technics 1210 or Tidal streaming. The integrated Radio app is a nice bonus. Interface wise it is pretty good. I am an interface designers so I have a high bar and even though the iOS App and onboard Music browsing app have some strange quirks they seem 100% better than anything I have experienced on rival products.

Pros: Easy to get the basic setup working Makes all music sound excellent All rounder when combine with the Rose CD player and a phone pre amp

Cons: Comes with very little instructions and a very deep set of configuration options - took me two days to work out why I wasn't getting audio from Videos or analogue signals.

HiFi Rose RS250A

An interesting streamer, if you're wanting to expand your musical horizons. There are a lot of cool Hifi Rose organizational tools if you're willing to dig in to them. Sounds great and definitely deserves to tag itself as Hifi. There are some navigational quirks that have moderate learning curve, and the lack of instruction makes the CD ripping function a mystery. But it is solid hardware and does its job well.

Pros: Solid Streamer

An Amazing Unit!

Thomas from PA on 9/14/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I've been goin through numerous network streamers to complete my new 2 channel music setup. I came across this HiFi Rose RS250A; as it has gotten much praise. I am absolutely floored with this unit, and this is a keeper. Setup was a breeze, integrated with my Synology NAS with no issues, the versatility and functionality of this unit is astonishing. So many things you can do with this. I haven't used the internal DAC since I have a cable from the USB 3.0 A to the USB-B input on the back of my MICHI X3, but it plays all Hi-Res quality songs to their fullest. It also seems that the manufacturers care for their products as they release a decent flow of updates and improvements as needed. I can highly recommend this unit for anyone lookin for a network streamer.

Pros: -Versatility -Ease of setup -Features -Build Quality

Cons: -None

HiFi Rose RS250A

Eugene from CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA on 8/25/2023

HiFi Rose absolutely nails the streaming interface that I wish most hi-fi equipment could have. It's colorful, large, fun to use, has a great phone app, and is accessible to everyone in the household. The RS250A spent some time at my home connected to a Rotel RB-1582 MKII power amp, and input from turntable/pre-amp, disc player, TV, and USB storage. Initial setup was a fairly quick and painless process. I was able to stream from Tidal very quickly following the setup due to how intuitive the interface is. Graphic representation of the back panel on the touchscreen allows for fast activation/deactivation of inputs and it has a fantastic selection of clocks, VU meters, and Now Playing formats to gaze at while you listen to playback. My hard format sources sounded fantastic, too! I really enjoyed the 4K video capabilities of this streamer through the RoseTube app. The app is specific to HiFi Rose and allows you to dive deep into musical performances on YouTube with no ads and the highest available resolution appearing first in the search results. I can't wait to give their amplification a shot with this fantastic streamer UI in tow. This is how hi-res streaming and 4K music should look and feel. Can't say enough great things.

Fun and Easy Family Music Sharing Device

Douglas from Seymour, TN on 8/11/2023

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

The HiFi Rose RS250A was integrated into an existing AV System located in nice AV cabinet in upstairs Media/Fitness room. This is where everyone likes to hang out and get into their own activities. The problem is that they're always asking me to set them up on a nice music channel either (Internet Radio, Sirius, Spotify or one of the other various subscription services which were located on my android phone) and that was a problem for me. I didn't want to have to give everyone access to my Wi-Fi which is why I was streaming the music from my Android phone. Problem, i would set the fitness room up on one of the music channels, then probably 30 minutes later someone else would come up and say, I want to listen to something else now and on and on. So I thought why not get some kind of a fun interactive device that everyone could walk up to (not being my Android phone) and it would let them easily select their own music through a fun and more picture oriented touch screen type interface. Since it would already be hardwired through RJ-45 I wouldn't have security issue. Well it turns out the RS250A did the trick and all the guests or family could select their own music selects: genre's, artists, playlists etc. and they would coordinate amongst themselves, I no longer had to worry about it.

Pros: it's really cool looking easy to use touch screen interface video interface to big screen tv

Cons: It is a little pricey but, worth it to me.
