Features

Overview: The Rockford Fosgate Prime R2-750X5 is a 5-channel full-range Class D amplifier. It's effectively two full range 2-channel amps and a mono subwoofer amp built into one chassis, labeled Front, Rear, and Sub. The front and rear sections of the amp are bridgeable, so it can be wired as 5-channel, 4-channel, or 3-channel.

CEA-2006 Compliant: CEA-2006 is a system of testing and measurement for mobile audio amplifiers. This voluntary standard advocates a uniform method for measuring an amplifier's RMS power output and signal-to-noise ratio. The criteria for measuring amplifier power uses a DC input voltage of 14.4 volts and the RMS power output is measured over a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz (for full range amplifiers), with 1% or less Total Harmonic Distortion plus noise (THD+N). Signal-to-Noise ratio is measured in weighted absolute decibels (dBA) at a reference of 1 watt into 4 ohms. CEA-2006 standards allow consumers to compare car amplifiers and receivers under the same conditions (apples to apples).

CEA-2006 Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • Full Range Channels: 50 watts RMS x 4 into 4Ω
    • Subwoofer Channel: 200 watts RMS x 1 into 4Ω
  • Signal to Noise Ratio:
    • Full Range Channels:: >80 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)
    • Subwoofer Channel:: >75 dBA (measured at 1 watt into 4Ω)

Other Specifications:

  • Power Output:
    • Full Range Channels:
      • 2Ω: 100 watts RMS x 4
      • Bridged (4Ω): 200 watts RMS x 2
    • Subwoofer Channel:
      • 2Ω: 350 watts RMS x 1

Mounting: The amplifier can be mounted vertically, horizontally, or inverted using the supplied mounting screws; horizontal mounting (right side up) will provide the best cooling.

Controls

Input Switch: Set this switch to match the number of inputs used, 2-channel, 4-channel, or 5-channel. In 2-channel mode the signal on the front input feeds all five output channels.

Independent Controls: The R2-750X5 has independent, top-mounted controls for the front, rear, and sub channels:

  • Gain: rotary gain controls; labeled 0 to 11 (equivalent to 150mV-4V line level or 450mV-12V speaker level)
  • Crossover: 3-position switch; choose low-pass, all-pass, or high-pass; there are switches for the Front and Rear channels only, the low-pass crossover on the sub channel is always engaged (it cannot be bypassed); low-pass and high-pass crossovers are 12 dB per octave Butterworth
  • Frequency: rotary dials; continuously variable from 50-250 Hz

Infra-Sonic: The variable infrasonic filter (15-40 Hz, 12 dB/octave slope) on the subwoofer channel is designed to prevent frequencies below the capability of the subwoofer from being amplified. This helps reduce distortion, and is particularly useful when powering subs in ported enclosures.

Punch EQ: The Punch EQ bass boost circuit on the subwoofer channel is adjustable from 0 (min) to +18 dB (max) and centered at 45 Hz.

Remote Level Control: A wired Remote Level Control is included, allowing you to remotely control the output level of the sub channel from the dash or center console. The remote has a rotary dial, and comes with mounting hardware and a 16' cable.

Remote Dimensions:

  • Width: 1.16" (2" including the mounting flanges)
  • Height: 0.92"
  • Depth: 1.55" (2.375" including knob and wiring)

Auto Turn-on Switch: When using speaker level inputs, this switch can be set to On and the amp will turn on when it senses an input signal (DC offset on the left front input). When using the RCA inputs a remote turn-on wire must be connected.

Connections

Power Terminals: The power and ground terminals are nickel-plated set-screw terminals, and will accommodate up to 4-gauge wire. (Rockford Fosgate recommends using 4-gauge power and ground wire.) The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Fuses: The amplifier does not have on-board fuses. A 120-amp fuse should be placed on the power wire within 18" of the battery.

Remote Turn-On Terminal: The remote turn-on terminal is a nickel-plated set-screw terminal that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screw is tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

Speaker Terminals: The speaker terminals are nickel-plated set-screw terminals that will accommodate up to 8-gauge wire. The set screws are tightened/loosened with the included 3mm hex key.

RCA Input Jacks: There are three pair of RCA input jacks for the front, rear, and subwoofer channels. The balanced differential inputs are nickel-plated to resist signal degradation caused by corrosion.

Speaker Level Inputs: There are ports for the three included speaker input harnesses, front, rear, and sub. If speaker level inputs are used, nothing should be connected to the RCA jacks.

Customer Q&A

11 questions already asked

Q
I am looking to run these subs, a pair of door speakers (6x6) and a pair of panel speakers (6x8), would this amp be enough to power it well?
watson  Jun 01, 2023
1 answer
A
This could work, though it may be possible to better pair the subs and amp. For example, two of the P3SD4-8 can only wired together to achieve an overall 1-ohm or 4-ohm impedance. The R2-750X5 is not 1-ohm stable, and running a 4-ohm load for the subwoofer channel would provide less power than presenting a 2-ohm load. Our advisors are happy to help with honing the sub/amp combination for the best result. Please reach out to us via online chat or phone at 1-800-324-9695.

Q
Do you need a audio controller before the amp if using factory head unit? Using the high level input
aj  Apr 24, 2022
1 answer
A
I did not connect this amp to a factory head unit. It was connected to an aftermarket head unit and I used it both with and without a separate volume controller and did not notice a difference.
brian  Apr 25, 2022
Q
I am running this amp to some ref6530cx. I was wandering if I can use the front and rear channels to biamp my components and get rid of the passive crossover that came with the speakers. Is it possible with this particular amp? If so what would I set the crossover to?
darren  Mar 07, 2022

Q
Does the bass knob (remote level control) change the punch eq level or the subwoofer gain or gain of all outputs or what?
glenn  Jun 29, 2020
2 answers
A
It controls the output level (gain) of the subwoofer channel only. It effectively allows you to boost or attenuate the bass only quickly with the knob.
casey  Jul 13, 2020 (Staff)
A
Bass knob adjusts the bass level of subwoofer as needed
dmitri  Jul 13, 2020
Q
If you are using high level input (4 channels), with the input switch set to 4ch, which input does the amp derive the subwoofer channels from? Front or Rear?
glenn  Jun 29, 2020
1 answer
A
With the R2-750X5 set to a 4 channel input switch, you are utilizing front and Rear/Sub, instead of using Front, Rear, and Sub when set to a 5 channel input. You will derive subwoofer channels from the Rear, when using this in a 4 channel input. Please chat with an Advisor online or by phone at 1-800-324-9695, if you would like further assistance.
