Kenwood discontinues support after 7 years.
Keith from VANCOUVER, WA on 6/8/2025
While the receiver is great, Kenwood discontinues navigation map updates after a product has been on the market for 7 years. That's not 7 years after it is no longer sold -- it's 7 years from the initial release! I've had two top end Kenwoods and it has happened to both. So, this receiver will probably lose support in 2027 or 2028.
Pros: Excellent receiver
Cons: No map updates 7 years after initial release.

Sweet Kenwood DNX997XR GPS Receiver
Crutchfield customer from Santa Fe, NM on 8/5/2021
I love the way the Kenwood DNX997XR looks, operates and sounds! Because new Kenwood receivers have been hard to come by, I purchased a refurbished unit when it became available. The only thing missing was the mounting screws. A Crutchfield advisor promptly got a couple packages of screws shipped to me. I am completely pleased with the receiver. The collection of wiring harnesses and interfaces was a bit confusing; there is no single place that tells you everything that needs to be done. And when I was finally done, shoving all the cables and interface into the space behind the HVAC controls was challenging. The iDatalink Maestro RR Interface Module was problematic, in that their instruction on their website were incorrect. I was not impressed with the quality of the Metra Dash Kit or it's instructions, and the receiver seems to be slightly "recessed" from the main trim panel; if I were super critical I'd pull the receiver back out and shim that dash kit. But everything got installed with the help of four or five different advisors, the receiver works great and I am very happy with it. Five stars for the receiver and five stars for the Crutchfield advisors. :)
Pros: Kenwood quality and innovation.
Cons: I was disappointed that the iDatalink Maestro RR Interface Module does not support the built-in GPS antenna, the built-in microphone or "chime" speaker. But we worked around all that. The motorized display screen can bind on the dash kit and refuse to open. If that happens loosen the mounting screws and move the receiver a bit (mine was binding on the left side) and that should take care of it.

Install straight forward. Excellent screen, many features, sound/amplifier excellent. It takes some time to learn all the features but then easy to use. Back up camera easily adjustable grid line.
Pros: Lots and lots of features. Straightforward install. Sound quality awesome.
Cons: So many features, there is a bit of a learning curve. Once familiar, easy to navigate features. Keep quick start guide in glove box!

Only been in truck for a week but so far is awesome. The Apple car play is really great and super safe while driving. Upgraded from a DNX 9990HD and this screen is much more clear
Pros: Great phone connection, dash cam integration is awesome
Cons: None so far
