Product Research

Features

Three-Way Bookshelf Loudspeaker: The Wharfedale Linton is a three-way bookshelf loudspeaker which incorporates a 1" textile soft-dome tweeter, a 5" woven Kevelar midrange driver, and an 8" woven Kevlar bass woofer for a warm, rich, and natural sound. Finely tuned crossovers guarantee a smooth transition between the tweeter, midrange, and woofer with an enjoyable audible experience, both on and off-axis.

  • 1" Tweeter: High frequencies are handled by a 1" woven textile soft-dome tweeter with high flux ferrite magnet, engineered for smooth, detailed high frequency extension.
  • 5" Midrange: The 5" midrange driver features Wharfedale's innovative woven Kevlar mounted on a rigid die-cast chassis for crisp, clean midrange frequencies.
  • 8" Woofer: The 8" woofer also features Wharfedale's innovative woven Kevlar cone mounted on a rigid die-cast chassis for deep, accurate bass output with superb dynamic performance.

"Classic"-Style Bass Reflex Cabinet: The Wharfedale Linton features a "classic"-style bookshelf enclosure that is beautifully hand veneered in a Mahogany or Walnut finish. It features an inset front baffle and traditional black cloth grille. There are two rear-firing ports that aid in increasing efficiency and delivering bigger bass response.

Binding Posts Terminals: Each Linton bookshelf loudspeaker is equipped with a set of binding-post speaker terminals. The binding post terminals will accept bare wire (up to 10AWG), pin connectors, spade connectors, & banana plugs (single only).

Speaker Stand: The Wharfedale Linton Stand is designed to match perfectly with Wharfedale's Heritage Series Linton bookshelf loudspeaker. It places the Linton speaker at the perfect listening height. The Wharfedale Linton Stand features heavy-duty steel upright posts, base, and top-plate for a rigid, non-resonant structure for your Linton bookshelf loudspeaker. It also features wood accents to match the Linton bookshelf loudspeaker. The Wharfedale Linton Stand comes with self-adhesive rubber pads that stick to the top-plate allowing the Linton loudspeaker to rest on the rubber pads and not directly on the steel top-plate. These rubber pads help isolate the speaker from the stand further reducing unwanted vibration and resonance. The rubber pads raise the speaker 0.375" off the stand. The Wharfedale Linton Stand includes four pre-installed, adjustable spike feet for carpeted flooring. Protective discs are included to under the spike feet if the Linton Stand is going on hardwood, tile, laminate, or vinyl floors. The spike feet and protective discs help to isolate the stand and speaker from the floor to prevent vibration and resonance.

  • Dimensions w/ Spike Feet: 11.875" (w) x 17.4375" (h) x 13.0625" (h)
  • Dimensions w/ Spike Feet and Discs: 11.875" (w) x 17.5625" (h) x 13.0625" (h)

Note: The speaker stand comes pre-assembled.

Placement Options: Try to position the loudspeakers equidistant from one another and the main listening position. The speakers should ideally be positioned so that the tweeters are roughly at ear level to a seated listener. The speakers can be "toed" or angled (up to 30°) into the main listening position to control the soundstage or "sweet-spot".

Note: The Wharfedale Linton does not include a bracket, keyhole slot, or threaded insert to wall-mount the speaker.

Q
I know Wharfedale is a British based company but where are the Lintons actually manufactured?
jim  Nov 13, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jim. Wharfedale has a manufacturing facility in China. That is where these are assembled.

Q
How will the Linton's pair with the Yamaha A-S501?
juan  May 31, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Juan, they will be a great match together. The Yamaha's very bright and punchy power will give some amazing depth and detail that the Lintons will be able to bring out of any track you wanted to listen to. All in all a great match with plenty of power to give those everything they need.

Q
How will the Lintons pair with the Cambridge AXR85?
syl  Oct 10, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Syl, while the Lintons are a somewhat difficult to drive 6-ohm speaker, that Cambridge is stable to push harder to drive 4-ohm speakers so there should be zero issues with pushing the Lintons.

Q
Is there a channel for the speaker wire built into the stand? or do you need to attach the speaker cable to the stand to keep it hidden?
william  Apr 16, 2024
1 answer
A
That is a great question, Wes. There is no integrated cable guide for speaker wiring on the Wharfedale LINTON Heritage stands. If you would like to affix the speaker wire to the stand for a clean install look, the Ethereal CS-WRAPBLK 8" reusable ties in the link below are an excellent call. https://www.crutchfield.com/p_120WRAPBLK/Ethereal-CS-WRAPBLK.html

Q
I have a Cambridge Audio CXA 61 rated at 60 watts. I've read that this is a conservative rating for this amp. I actually love this amp but before I pull the trigger, any thoughts if this will cut it?
mark  Mar 27, 2024
1 answer
A
The Cambridge Audio CXA-61 would be a great pairing with the Warfedale Linton Heritage speakers, Mark. Since these speakers are rated at 6-ohms, they will get 75-watts or so from the Cambridge which has a high-current power supply and could even exceed the on-paper specifications. The Linton Heritage speakers have a minimum wattage requirement of 25-watts and also feature 90db sensitivity rating, so they are going to sound great with your amp!
bo  Mar 28, 2024 (Staff)
Q
How are the speakers secured to the stands? Do they bolt or screw on?
bobby  Jan 11, 2024
1 answer
A
The speakers do not attach to the stands.

Q
How will the Linton's pair with the new NAD C3050?
terrence s  Dec 19, 2023
1 answer
A
The NAD C3050 would pair nicely, Schaun. The NAD delivers 100-watts of RMS power and matches the vintage look of the Wharfedale Lintons, plus you can upgrade it with the optional BluOS module for Hi-Res streaming if you need to have modern streaming in addition to your analog sources.

Q
Will the Emotiva BasX TA1 with 60watts into 8 ohms / 100 watts into 4 ohms push the Wharfedale Linton Heritage ?
earlington  Dec 04, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Earl. Thank you for your question. You Emotiva would roughly be sending 80 watts to these. Thats enough to push the Lintons, but the Lintons are rated for 200. The more clean power you can give to any speaker, the more detail they will have.

Q
Will Linton work well with Decware SE84UFO2, Class A 2.3 watts RMS?
phil  Oct 12, 2023
2 answers
A
The Decware SE84FO2 is the same Amplifier I'm using with my Lintons. They sound great at full volume nice & clear! Plenty of volume for my listening tastes.??
joseph  Oct 15, 2023
A
I don't have direct experience with the Decware. However I have found the Lintons to be fairly power hungry. I do listen at decent volumes in a large room. I think a class a tube amplifier is a good match for the lintons just not sure if 2.3 watts would be enough if you listen at loud volumes or are in a medium/large room.
eric john  Oct 14, 2023
Q
Is this the Anniversary Edition?
greg  Aug 14, 2022
1 answer
A
They are Greg! These are the re-issue of the much loved original from the 60's, created with modern technology to sound even better. These are gorgeous in person, and the guys at Wharfedale even created the "double stack" using four driven by a four channel amp! These sound and look stunning, that's for sure.
bo  Aug 14, 2022 (Staff)
Q
If I place these speakers on the floor instead of placing them on the stands that they come with, how will the speakers sound?
jeff  Jun 10, 2022
1 answer
A
These Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers sound amazing! They ARE designed to be placed on the matching stands for best performance. You get a major discount with us for purchasing with the stands, too! If you have to place them on the floor, it is not ideal but they will still sound good. The Wharfedale guys actually do a "double stack" where they stack another pair of these on top of the first pair (for a total of four!) upside down, and these things are absolutely incredible, rivaling speaker setups ten times the price! Any way you stack it, these are one of the best speakers out right now.

Q
How many hours does it take for these Linton's to fully break in?
charles  Mar 28, 2022
5 answers
A
As I play mine constantly I can only assume it took 36-48 hours of use. I have to say these speakers rival my DQ9's that I owned in the early 80"s. They are amazing period and perform far above their price point!
timothy s  Mar 28, 2022
A
As far as I am concerned, there is no "break-in". They are at 100% right out of the box.
joseph  Mar 28, 2022
A
approximately 50 plus hours but they sound good write out of the box...
wallace  Mar 28, 2022
A
Mine sounded great out of the box. The only thing I noticed maybe was the Bass getting a bit quicker. I am not a big believer in break-in on traditional speakers. one thing that does seem to be a thing is the screws on the bass and mid drivers could use a bit of tightening after a month or so. Mine were right and tight though. The Linton's have a very specific signature. If you want uber detail and super crisp highs go with the KLH model 5's, Focal, or B&W. If you want smooth and non-fatiguing the Linton's are just amazing! Not great for Heavy Metal without some color assistance from the rest of your chain. You need to scoop the mids just a bit as the Lintons have amazing and probably a bit too forward of midrange.
michael  Mar 28, 2022
A
Break-in is a bit vague, IMO. After all, the minuscule changes in sound that your brain convinces you you're perceiving could result from that day's air temperature, humidity in the room, or what you had for lunch. The Lintons sound good straightaway, and they sound even better as your ears adjust to their specific sonic qualities. It's perhaps fairer to say that our ears break-in, rather than the speakers. For example, even after owning them for 6 months, I'm still surprised at how great certain recordings sound and how some poorly recorded music sounds pretty crappy. I never attribute either of these observations to speaker break-in.

Q
Will these speakers work with my old pioneer SX-780 spec at 8 ohms with 45 watts per channel?
omar  Feb 19, 2022
7 answers
A
I'm not an expert, and the Crutchfield folks should be able to help, but a 45 W amp doesn't sound like enough to sufficiently push the speakers. I'm sure the amp will produce sound, but likely would not maximize the potential of the Wharfedales. I actually upgraded my home theater receiver to a 100 W Yamaha, and it works great.
eric  Feb 28, 2022
A
I think they'll work, but you will find them under powered; I'm looking to upgrade my amp to hear their full potential. They are certainly geared for the vintage sound, so I would try them with your amp, but you are probably going to max your volume and wish you had an 11. They are great speakers for the price--especially considering the quality stands included.
jeff  Feb 27, 2022
A
I am using the Lintons with a 100 Watt per channel solid state receiver by Outlaw Audio. Very happy with the combination. If your receiver is an older unit from the 1970's, I remember those using discrete output transistors and being under rated for power and should work with these speakers. If it is a 1990's or later, then 45 WPC may be a bit underpowered to drive these.
letizia  Feb 26, 2022
A
Absolutely ...you will not be disappointed
warren  Feb 24, 2022
A
I definitely would not use the Linton's with the 780, the power isnt the issue but the Darlington power paks inside your Pioneer do not do well when driven hard and of speakers with lower impedance than 8 ohms, The Linton are 6 ohm nominal bit can dip under 4 ohms minimal. There are budget friendly new models like the Cambridge AXR 100 that will work extremely well with the Linton.
thomas  Feb 23, 2022
A
Easily. You will love these with That. I have a Marantz with 64 wpc 8 ohms and can't turn it up half way. The pioneers are built well and don't worry about the ohm issue. I wouldn't be afraid of pushing this with a 20 W per channel vintage amplifier
wilson  Feb 23, 2022
A
Should be fine the lintons are rated D at 6 ohms you should get a little more power out of your pioneer
wallace  Feb 23, 2022
Q
I think these speakers are designed for 6 ohms amplifiers. Would it work well withe 8 ohms'?
avocats  Apr 17, 2021
7 answers
A
The Aegirs are 4-ohm stable and Schiit warns to not push them lower than that in Mono. If you run your speakers at moderate levels the Aegirs should be fine. If you turn them up and they distort turn the volume down a bit.
michael  Mar 28, 2022
A
Just to follow up. Can I safely and effectively run these with 2 8 ohm mono power amps like the Schiit Aegirs?
lester  Jun 08, 2021
A
Most modern amps are rated for output at both 8 and 4 ohms. If your amp has a 4 ohm rating, you should be good to go. I paired these speakers with an older Cambridge Audio integrated rated 75W at 8 ohms. I originally bought that amp to drive an older pair of JBL L80t speakers. I never felt that this combination worked very well, so I bought a Parasound HINT rated 160W at 8 ohms and that worked much better with the JBLs. I bought the Lintons to pair with the CA amp for a second system and was pleasantly surprised at how well they worked together!
dwight  Apr 18, 2021

I am powering these speakers with Cambridge Audio CXA81 integrated amp. It is 80w/8ohms and 120w/4 ohms...kicks butt with volume knob at 10 o'clock. I am no specs guy, I listen to music. That amp has plenty of juice for these speakers.
norman w  Apr 18, 2021
A
It will work but will draw more current so something with a big power supply would be best.

Q
Would the Naim Uniti Atom be able to power Wharfedale Lintons? The Uniti Atom puts out only 40 watts per channel, at the low end of the speakers' power range.
frank  Oct 17, 2020
2 answers
A
The Linton's drop to just under 4-ohms in heavy passages. The better current you have is what is important. If you really want to hear them sing, throw a 2-ohm stable amp with a good front-end preamp and THAT is where they really shine. They will sound decent with a wide range of integrated amplifiers. The downside to 4-ohm stable amps is they will sound great until you push them then the Mids and Highs can get a bit strained and muddled. This is not because the speakers can't handle it, it is due to the amp straining to provide the current the speakers need.
michael  Mar 28, 2022

Q
I was gifted a Cayin A50-T integrated valve amp 16-watts per channel, in triode mode which is where I prefer to use it. I would be driving these off the 4ohm taps. I don't listen to music overly loud but do like to approach performance levels at times. Would this amp pair well with these wharfedale lintons?
ryan l  Oct 03, 2024
1 answer
A
Hey Ryan, thanks for the question. So looking at the specs on that integrated amp, I cannot see why that piece would have any issues driving the LINTONs. That high output tube in triode mode may only be driving 16-watts but those are typically just paper specs and I would guess the output and imaging of the sound will be much larger than advertised. That is a great little amp I had not got to research before but I'm liking everything about it, so I hope you enjoy it!

Q
Will my Denon AVR S760H be able to power these?
eric  Sep 03, 2024
1 answer
A
The 75-watts RMS output of your Denon AVR-S760H is capable of powering the Wharfedale LINTON Heritage speakers as they have a minimum required wattage of 25-watts RMS, Eric. For the best possible sonic performance, more wattage from a high-current integrated amp or powerful home theater receiver is a good idea.

Q
Would these speakers pair well with a Cambridge Audio CXA60?
jason  Feb 02, 2024
1 answer
A
Greetings Jason. Thank you for your question. The Cambridge Audio CXA60 has ample power to run a nice set of speakers including these. Speakers will sound better the closer you can get to their maximum power handling. These are rated for 200 watts, and are 6 ohms. Your Cambridge has 60 at 8 ohms, so ballpark at 6 ohms you will be running about 75 watts to these.

Q
How well would the Lintons pair with a Rotel A11 Tribute amp (50wpc into 8 ohms)?
joe  Jan 13, 2024
1 answer
A
These speakers can work with the power of the Rotel A11 Tribute and give a certain level of performance as the amp outputs power that is higher than the minimum watts RMS recommended by Wharfedale. However, that amp is not able to make these speakers give all the sound they can so the trick is to figure out if these speakers are able to work with the amp to meet your goals. We have advisors that can be reached by calling 1-800-324-9695 who are happy to discuss your goals for the sound to see if this match will work for you

Q
Hello, I want to buy a pair of Linton. However, I need to know exactly the size and weight of the boxes they come in. Is it one box for each speaker? And as for the pedestals, is it also one box for each pedestal? So that would be four boxes? Please, send me the weight and dimensions of these boxes. Thank you. Alexandre
alexandre  Jan 02, 2024
1 answer
A
We cannot provide the exact dimensions and weight you are requesting, Alexandre. The speakers will ship in individual boxes, and the stands will also ship in two separate individual boxes. If you are planning to re-ship after reception, you will need to measure and weigh the packages carefully after arrival. I hope this helps!

If they are placed close to wall (due to room limitations) how will it impact the base?
kennyb  Jul 11, 2023
1 answer

Greetings Kenny, and thank you for your question. The bass output will increase if the speakers are positioned closer to the wall. Wharfedale is not listing the optimum distance from the wall however. They say kind of play it be your own personal preference.

Will the Lintons pair well with the Leak Stereo 230?
kennyb  Jul 07, 2023

I think this would be an excellent pair, Kenny. A favorite of the guys from Mo-fi, and when I saw the pair in person I was really impressed. This pairing would get you the vintage look, but with modern technology and sound! Q
Can I stack linton with latest bluesound powernode.. is the power enough?
krish  Feb 01, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Krish, and thank you for your question. Speakers sound better the closer you can get to their maximum power rating. The Linton's are rated for up to 200 watts. There are two Powernodes. The Edge has 40 watts, the Powernode has 80. The Edge for sure will be too weak. The Powernode would be better. Another option would be the Node 2i connected to a higher powered power amp.

Q
Safe to run these at 4ohms on an Onkyo Rz620 av receiver?
ionut  Jan 16, 2023
1 answer
A
Since these amazing Wharfedale LINTON Heritage speakers are rated as a 6-ohm speaker Johnny, they should operate just fine if your Onkyo is capable of driving a 4-ohm load. According to the specs sheet, the RZ620 should be a great way to power these beauties!

Q
What is the tweeter height with the matching stands?
evan  Sep 24, 2022
1 answer
A
It looks like they would be roughly the 36"-38" range, Evan. It looks like Wharfedale lists the stand at 17 and 9/16" with the spiked feet on discs. You can add 22-5/16" to that to cover the height of the speaker, then subtract around 4-5" or so for tweeter center. I hope this helps a bit with those unlisted specs!
