High-tech drivers for exceptionally detailed sound

The CS-8060HD has two 4-1/2" midranges flanking a 1" dome tweeter, for perfectly blended highs and mids. The pure aluminum dome tweeter has a silk surround, allowing it to dish out loads of sonic detail without ever sounding harsh. And thanks to Definitive's Balanced Double Surround System (BDSS) drivers, movie dialogue and special effects will sound clear, never muddy. The upward-firing woofer requires only one inch of clearance, so this powerful speaker works whether it's placed in the open or in an A/V cabinet.

Features

Powered Subwoofer: The CS-8060HD features an 8" subwoofer powered by the built in 150 watt class D amplifier. The upward-firing woofer requires 1" of clearance above the enclosure.

Midrange: The two midranges used in the CS-8060HD are 4-1/2" second generation BDSS (Balanced Double Surround System) drivers. The midrange cones are injection molded polymer composite with cast aluminum baskets. BDSS is Definitive's patented technology that supports the speaker cone at both the inner and outer edges allowing longer and more linear excursion for greater clarity and detail. The new Linear Response Waveguide (patent pending) smoothes off-axis frequency response and disperses sound over a wide area (the HD in the part number stands for High Dispersion).

Tweeter: The tweeter is a pure aluminum dome, heat-treated to relax the crystal structure, then coated with a ceramic to produce extended highs.

Voice-Matched: The CS-8060HD is a full-range low-distortion center channel speaker, timbre-matched to blend perfectly with the Definitive Technology BP-8060ST or BP-8040ST SuperTower main speakers.

Binding Posts: The speaker terminals are gold-plated, 5-way binding posts and will accommodate spade connectors, single or dual banana plugs, pin connectors, and bare wire up to 10 gauge.

Line Input: In addition to the speaker level inputs (which are required), if the connected receiver/amplifier has a center channel line level output, it can also be used to send signal to the powered subwoofer section of the CS-8060HD (this input should not be used with the receiver's LFE output).

Bass Level: A rotary knob on the back panel controls the output level (volume) of the powered subwoofer.

Auto Power: When a signal is delivered to the CS-8060HD the amplifier automatically turns on and the rear panel LED lights. Once the signal is removed the amplifier automatically turns off (after about an hour).

Just purchased this center channel CS8060HD from you guys. I have been using a CLR 2002 Def Tech center speaker along with my 5 year old Def Tech BP7006 towers. I'm keeping the towers as they still do the job and still sound great (also with built in subs). I am using a Def Tech Supercube 400 on LFE hookup. And, for the rear, I have mounted flush in the ceiling a pair of Speakercraft with directional tweeters. System sounds great. My question is...how long a break in period for the center channel and what difference will it make once broken in (as far as better sound)?

I am not the best person to ask although I do own this speaker. I don't really listen to music often and since my ear is not very sophisticated, I can't say that I have noticed much difference as far as break in. I have owned it for about 18 months but have not noticed changes over that time. I use this speaker as the center channel with two pairs of B+W speakers in my study. I use it almost exclusively for television while I work on the computer. I bought this knowing about timbre matching and problems of mixing different brands but I can't tell any real difference between this speaker and my B+W's. I honestly don't want to become that discerning. Ridiculous? I admit it. But it works for me and the sound is great. Rarely do I use the main system in the living room any more despite its bigger TV and bigger speakers except on date nights. Even when I am not multi-tasking using the computer, I tend to gravitate to my study to watch TV or listen to music because it is a cozier room it may be because of the quality of the sound or maybe its closer proximity to the kitchen...

Do you have to use the LFE input in order for the sub to work?. My Avr only has one output and I already have a splitter on it driving two Def Tech towers.

You Do not have to use the LFE input , It works better to just hook it up Like normal Speaker and set Speaker settings to Large

You do not need to use the LFE input for the 8060 center channel. I just have mine connected via speaker wire and it works great. Almost too good sometimes because dialogue can be too bass heavy, so I keep my bass knob at less than 50%

No you don't need to use an LFE output for the sub to work. It's actually designed to use a high level (speaker level) or low level input (rca). It's meant to be used more for adding a powered sub to the center channel but can be used for LFE if needed though it works best to make the center act like your towers. It's been one of the best center channels I've owned as having that powered sub built in really makes the center stand out in a home theater system instead of being a "voice box" like most center channels. With your powered sub towers this would match perfectly as with my SM bookshelves it's so good that during late night viewing I turn my main sub off and still enjoy the output.

Your subs in the 8060 will work with speaker hookup also, you will need to switch the settings in your avr to large fronts to send the low signals to them. Put your sub on the Lfe output.

WILL THIS CENTER SPEAKER MATCH UP OK WITH A PAIR OF KLIPCH RF7II?? Will this speaker match up ok to a pair of klipch RF-7II Towers??

I think you would be better off purchasing a Klipsch center speaker that matches your reference series fronts.

each manufacturer of speakers has its own characteristics of sound. I personally think Definitive speakers are more smooth and realistic sound than Klipch speakers which are more harsh and bright. I would want to stay within its own manufacturer when pairing with speakers. Unless if you are looking for certain characteristics for your center channel and front speakers.

Hi, It is good center speaker,but I would go with the Klipch center speaker becuase the drives will match up with the Klipch RF-7II better.

Hi Stephen. Yes it will of course work, but I wouldn't think this is the best option for you. For me, mix matching speakers is like mix matching tires on a car. I don't do it. It makes for a less quality drive, or a less quality listening experience. I don't know what model the Klipsch tower is, but I would recommend finding a Klipsch center, at least the tonal qualities that make a Klipsch a Klipsch should be retained. Another car comparison, a BMW drives like a BMW no matter the model. A Honda feels like a Honda no matter the model. I think speakers are much the same. In summary I would find a Klipsch center if I were you, or I would swap out everything for DT's. Hope this helps.
