Just wow
Denise from Sequim, WA on 6/30/2025
Love them, fabulous sound, nice size, full sound. Totally happy!!
Pros: Small but quite the excellent sound, I'm 72 and love music. Played it loud for years, blew out a speaker or two. No need to play loud, every note is clear as a bell. Don't have huge parties so no need to crank it up. Most small speakers like this aren't made for that. I'm sold. I totally recommend it for house speakers . Better than my little Bose! Love that I can plug in to my phone or computer! Never liked Bluetooth, sketchy.
Cons: Can't think of a one.

Art Studio audio setup
Jacqueline from Richmond, CA on 6/15/2025
I'm using the Audioengine A2+ speakers in my art studio as part of a wired signal chain: iPhone 13 Lightning to USB Camera Adapter AudioQuest Dragonfly DAC RCA A2+ This bypasses the internal DAC and makes full use of Apple Music's lossless audio. The sound is clear, detailed, and warm - far better than you'd expect from speakers this size. I've paired the speakers with the Audioengine S8 subwoofer, which rounds out the low end without overpowering the mix. I haven't used the Bluetooth or built-in DAC, but it's nice that both are included. For most people, this makes them plug-and-play. For me, the wired setup offers better clarity, and I'd rather deal with extra cables to get there. I've never had sound this good - it even beats my old turntable and studio monitor setup. Small footprint, great sound!
Pros: - Exceptional sound quality for the size - Compact design - fits easily on a shelf or desk - Works beautifully with an external DAC (clear, warm, detailed) - Built-in Bluetooth and DAC for flexibility - Pairs seamlessly with the S8 subwoofer
Cons: - Internal DAC is decent, but outclassed by a good external one - No remote control (kind of annoying if i have my phone docked and wired up) - Bass needs the sub to feel truly full (but expected at this size)

Audioengine A2+ Home Music System
Jeff from Chicago, IL on 5/5/2025
I've only had these set up for a few days but they seem to sound great and offer enough inputs and outputs for my slightly unusual use. I really wanted powered speakers with multiple inputs (Bluetooth and RCA) as well as an output that I could run to another amp for under $300. These seemed to fit the bill perfectly! They replaced an old pair of computer speakers with a unique subwoofer and they don't have quite the bass response that I was used to but I think I actually has it EQed a little much for bass and I'll get used to the new sound. For 90% of music and speech, it's not even an issue- generally, these really do sound good and you can't beat the range of inputs and outputs for the price!

A2+? More like F2+
Out of the box it makes a beeping noise when powered on that does disappear after a few seconds. And it has a faint but noticeable hiss that doesn't change with volume or source. Sound quality is. I bought Kanto Oras and they are perfect. Will not be buying Audioengine again. Will be looking to return.
Pros: Packaging.
Cons: Quality control.

Great speakers for my Linux mini-pc!
John from GRANADA HILLS, CA on 3/20/2024
I wanted to upgrade the sound is was getting from my new mini-pc as I was using an older, failing Logitech speaker system. I just took delivery of these new A2 + speakers and I'm so pleased with my purchase. I also bought one set of 6' speaker wires with banana plugs & the Kanto speaker stands. All these items were packaged & shipped very professionally, and set up was very simple. I started with connecting both L & R speakers with the speaker wires, then used the included USB cable with the small micro USB end into the left speaker, then the USB A end to the back of my mini-pc. Make sure you turn off your pc first just to prevent any problems. Then I plugged in the power brick into the power strip, the other end of the power cable into the left speaker's power socket. I'm using Linux Mint 21.3 as my OS, and yes these speakers work fine under Linux through USB. In the Linux sound control panel you can choose your sound device for playback, either analog output or digital output (S/PDIF). I did this review for all those who want to make a big improvement in the sound/music they play while on their computer, especially those who use the computer as a source for their music enjoyment. Also in the near future I plan on buying the Audioengine A8 subwoofer to cover the low end frequencies. If you need help just ask the people at Crutchfield to lend you their support. Yes I would recommend these speakers for computer use 100%!!
Pros: Clean & detailed sound, easy to connect & set up.They sound great for classical, jazz, and rock. I play drums & percussion, & these instruments sound real & fully present with these speakers. Will purchase the A8 subwoofer to cover the low end frequencies. Also plenty of volume for my small room. I usually use low volume settings as the room is small but slightly damped, but even at higher settings they rock!
Cons: I wish the volume knob had a full off setting. Not a big deal really, I'm just a bit of a perfectionist.

Nice speakers for the price
Lloyd from Gainesville, FL on 2/1/2024
These speakers hit pretty hard and the bass is fine. They only work with the AUX cable, but my comp is pretty old. The Bluetooth works on my other devices. I liked the brochure included that said, Need Help and Thank You, etc. The only reason for a 4 rating is there is no protective screen (seems the tweeter is quite vulnerable) and the volume knob is on the rear of the speaker. Overall, a superb little speaker for my needs.

Great PC sound, relatively small footprint
Jeff from Surfside Beach, SC on 1/31/2024
The sound is solid, I can definitely pick out more details in music and video games compared with my old speakers. These are the first PC speakers I've owned that had a noticeable soundstage when playing music, somewhere just behind the monitor. The volume is as loud as I need for close distance, they may or may not be loud enough to fill a room (bookshelf style). They are a little wider and deeper than typical PC speakers but not distractingly large for a desktop. I like that the volume knob has a physical min and max range, rather than a spinning volume control, with a satisfying *click* in the off position. Other speakers would sometimes turn off when the sound was very quiet (energy saving or some nonsense) but these are always on. I've tried several PC speakers over the decades from 4.1 surround sound packages with stands and subwoofers to countless two-speaker products from Logitech, etc., that never quite sounded right, but I think these speakers are going to last. It bugs me a little that I had to spend $269 for decent PC speakers, but I'm glad I have them.
Pros: Sound quality, range, relatively small, really like them for my PC.
Cons: Would be nice if they were a little louder, but for PC use they are fine. A little expensive.

Richard from St Petersburg, FL on 1/14/2024
They're great speakers. They have exceptional clarity and they look fantastic. I use them as computer speakers paired with an 8 inch Martin Logan subwoofer I would give them five stars except their 15 W per channel is just a little less than I would like it to be you do need the stands that are $29 ordered separately, if you don't, they will not hit your ears properly
Pros: Exceptional clarity Good looking and well-made
Cons: Slightly underpowered

Matt from SAINT PAUL, MN on 11/30/2023
These are very impressive. I was down to a few choices for some laptop speakers, and ended up choosing these for the headphone/3.5mm jack as I could run it from my USB hub to them and not have to worry about bluetooth acting up. They are solid little things, and while they are not too small I was a little worried that they may not be loud enough, but in my 12 x 12 office they get too loud, so they can put out an impressive amount of sound. I usually have pandora streaming while I work, and the first day I heard a lot of songs I usually hear but the tweeters on these are so much cleaner I was hearing sounds in the sounds I have never heard before. I am very impressed with them.

Fantastic satellites, need subwoofer
James from COLUMBIA, MO on 11/25/2023
I bought these to replace an older 2.1 PC sound system I had (which I thought sounded good). These little guys are amazing! These speakers are so easy to setup and use. The BT works great. I'm hearing things in music now that I never noticed before. Definitely lacking in the low frequencies. If you want a decent music or gaming system, a SW is a MUST. I read some reviews that said these A2+ had good bass. Don't believe that. That being said, they function perfectly as desktop or bookshelfs, supplemented with a SW. If you're using them near field (like mine on a desktop), definitely get the stands (or make your own). Having these aimed properly is key.
Pros: Crystal clear sound (mids and highs), easy connectivity.
Cons: Definitely needs a subwoofer

Still learning these desktop speakers and working through the break-in period; very pleased so far. The volume control is fine, trying to arrive at a setting and then use the various input controls, i.e., iTunes, Amazon music, SiriusXM, and Netflix. Adam from Manassas, VA on 2/17/2023
I love the design, build quality, and size of these but disappointed in the sound. I wasn't expecting a lot of bass from these but it was even less than that, the highs and mids also failed to impress. Maybe I had my expectations set too high but for the price I did expect more. The input and output features are great, Crutchfield service was top notch as always. Add a sub to your budget because it's definitely needed.

Perfect for their intended use
Robert from VIENNA, VA on 2/6/2023
Short review: the Audioengine A2+ wireless speakers are accurate, warm sounding, with bass that is good enough, especially for their size. They are perfect for PC desktop speakers. Buy the stands - they are necessary for good near field listening. Longer review: There are no one-size-fits-all speakers, just good speakers for the job. For movies, I have an (expensive) 5.1 system (soon to be 7.1) with a sub that goes down below 20 Hz and other speakers that provide excellent dialog and surround sounds. In the living room, I have a 5.2 system for listening to lossless music (no TV). For the kitchen, a 2.1 system for the small TV. And now for my desk, just the pair of Audioengine A2+ wireless speakers, driven by a MacBook Air M2 through a Dragonfly DAC (no sub). When first hooked up, the sound of the A2s was somewhat strident and the bass just thumped. I was apprehensive, but I know speakers always need to be broken in. After about 35 hours of break-in time, everything calmed down. The sound is relatively accurate, and the little woofers seem to know their limit and no longer annoy. Usable bass is probably closer to 80 than 65 Hz. With the stands tilting the speakers up, the near field sound is enveloping. Although I like the more clinical studio monitor kind of sound for critical listening, I prefer the warmer sound for music while working on my PC as it is less distracting. The AudioEngines can also play loud. Just as a test I measured 95db

Excellent upgrade from basic computer speakers for my home office. I've tested listening to a large variety of lossless music, and the audio quality is great. I thought I might want to get a subwoofer in the future, but I think the bass is enough for my needs.
Pros: Audio quality Volume (get a lot louder than I expected) Built-in DAC
Cons: DAC is limited to 16-bit / 48khz. It'd be nice if it supported 24-bit / 96khz or 192khz.

Wow... I have always been a headphone guy. Mainly because I've lived in apartments or with folks who I didn't want to bother with loud music. Being a headphone guy, I built up a bit of a bias. I "knew" that headphones were superior in every way and went on the hunt for the perfect sound. I forked out thousands over the last decade on everything from folding retro style headphones to top-of-the-line planar magnetic earphones that threatened to give me neck-strain after prolonged use. I settled on a DAC... the ADI-2 DAC by RME, which has served me well through my trials and tribulations.

Great little speakers for computer
Richard from Santa Barbara, CA on 2/21/2022
The Audioengine A2+ speakers are punchy and tight. I was pleased at how easy they were to hook up to my mac mini through usb and my iphone via Bluetooth. Sound is great for listening to music and these little speakers produce accurate sound with no annoying hiss when left on. The speakers have little bass but that is to be expected with a smaller desktop speaker. They are accurate and to me, that is what matters. I might add a sub later, but for now, I am pleased by their performance.
Pros: Great punchy sound Bluetooth pairing is easy and a great feature. Small footprint but they have a bright, loud presence.
Cons: No led light on speaker with built in amp to remind you that they are on.

All in all, a great little compact speaker with crystal clear high and mid tones. I was incredibly impressed with the clarity of the speakers and additionally love the design. They're simple and clean and were incredibly easy to set up. If you're considering these speakers I would strongly advise also considering a subwoofer given the limited bass they output. If the folks at Audioengine or reading this review it would also be nice if they were to add USB-C as an option to connect and power the speakers in the future.
Pros: Simple and clean design. Crystal clear high and mid tones.
Cons: They are a bit lacking when it comes to bass. A subwoofer is strongly recommend.

Optimize your computer sound system.
Crutchfield customer from Tacoma, WA on 12/13/2021
Great small speaker with a dash of flair. I had previously purchased these same speakers in black with the compact Jamo compact sub woofer. The sound is so amazing, I had to upgrade my wife computer sound system as well. Her favorite color is red...an easy choice. Get the small dedicated mini stand which directs the speaker at an up angle which works very well on a desk top. Highly recommended, gamers will love the very accurate sounds of the A2+ and the "feel" of the subwoofer while gaming.
Pros: Great sound, small foot print. Amazing sounds while surfing and listening to music.
Cons: Minor issue with the Audioengine not turning on when starting up my computer, easy work around as there is a volume control on the back of the left speaker. Just turn off and back on. Otherwise thrilled with the set up.

Neither natural sounding nor pro
David from Arlington on 11/10/2021
The small size is ideal for use with a desktop computer. The audio quality, however, has a great deal to be desired. With a career background of consulting in the global record industry, I can assure you that they A2+ speakers are neither in the class of studio monitors nor natural sounding. Quite the contrary, "loudness" is achieved through a highly equalized tactic with audio that's compressed to the point of distortion. At normal volume, the A2+ have a weak sound with no hint of low-end or bass. Over-priced without a doubt but there are numerous other speakers in the competitive arena that are far more natural sounding. If it's small and studio quality you seek, check out the legendary Auratone 5C speakers that you will find in nearly every recording studio control room on the planet. I give the Audioengine A2+ two stars because they are nice looking. Performance-wise, however, they earn no more than one star, in my opinion.
Pros: Nice looking Small Cute
Cons: Not natural sounding Highly compressed sound No low-end or bass

Not worth the money
Crutchfield customer from Medford, MA on 10/12/2021
These speakers are nothing special especially given the price. In addition, the speakers generate a lot of hum when using any no-digital input when you have to turn off your computer. You have to turn off the speakers too, which is a challenge because the power switch is in the back. To avoid hum, you must use digital input (USB) but now all my USB ports are used up. I really can't recommend these. They are poorly designed and overpriced! By the way, I tried to get help from a Crutchfield tech--they were not much help.
Pros: Look good
Cons: =>Problems with hum. =>Mediocre sound quality =>Overpriced =>Poor support

Great little speakers to use as an alternative to a soundbar. I couldn't find a soundbar that would work for one TV due to size limitations. Be Honest with yourself. We all have had computer speakers that are ugly and sound horrible and paid around $20-$50 dollars for. But it is a new age and speakers have come a long ways. These speakers absolutely rock for what what I'm using them for. I love the fact that pairing them to my I-phone took less than a minute and I used the USB cable to connect them to my computer. The sound is fantastic and so clear to the point that I can hear finger dragging across the key boards. A2+ Wireless, A Great Replacement for the A2
Scott from Lexington, MA on 4/6/2021
I've owned a pair of A2s for close to a decade. I loved them. They're small, good-looking a decade later, loud enough, articulate enough, and small enough to be PERFECT PC speakers. The left speaker has some issues and I replaced them with the A2+ Wireless. I looked at many others HD3, HD4, A5+, YP2, YP4, KEF. I am sure there is better sounding, but I simply didn't want the tradeoff on size and price since my A2s served me so well. Got the A2+ Wireless speakers and I shocked to say: They sound better (crisper, punchier) and even better imaging. They're still A2s, but I expected no differences. Other minor differences I noticed: -Power supply is about half the size -1/4" plug is much thicker -Binding posts are much more substantial that the originals A2s -While the A2s are black/black/glossy. The A2+ is more black/coal/matte. I don't care in the slightest. Just an observation. Here's to another 10 great years.
Pros: The combination of price, size, sound, sound stage, and wireless capability is unbeatable.
Cons: I love the bass and the warmness of this speaker. If you want something more or different, look elsewhere. It's about the right tool for the job.

The silk dome tweeters are very directional, think of the difference between a spot light versus a flood light. For this reason, highly recommend getting the DS1 speaker stand, which will better aim the sound at your ears, when placed on a desktop.

Excellent tone for small speakers. Surprising depth and clarity. Bass isn't muddy. Highs tend to be strident if played to loudly but not an issue.

Nice small desktop speakers
Crutchfield customer from Newark, DE on 3/9/2021
I am very happy with these little speakers. They look great and sound great with high quality music. Even on YouTube look up NBR. It's high Res audio. Sounds awesome with these speakers.
Pros: Sound
Cons: Cost. When speakers are small they should always cost under $200 in my opinion. But I bought them anyway. Lol

Very Nice
Crutchfield customer from Nashville, TN on 2/28/2021
These are great little speakers. The bluetooth works really well and they are very , very well made. I like deeper bass so I will most likely add a subwoofer at some point. Overall a really good, solid set of speakers.
Pros: Size Sound Quality
Cons: More bass would be nice

You could do far worse in this price range.
Crutchfield customer from Albany, NY on 2/25/2021
To me they are maybe a bit warm. Hence the single star off. If I had the option of a half a star I would chose that. I listen to a combination of studio monitors, Klipsch horn loaded tweeters, and Kyogo Stax headphones so they are up against it out of the gate. Otherwise they are an excellent little speaker for the size. In near field, this is how I use them, they play plenty loud enough to be uncomfortable when turned up to near the point that you are just starting to hear the coloration of distortion. The tweeters are rather directional as others have noted as well. But overall they seem pretty accurate all things considered. Plug in the USB and a few seconds later they simply play when paired to my Lenovo T15G laptop. No driver search BS to deal with. Pairing with Bluetooth was easy as well and just worked perfectly with both the laptop and a Samsung S10 5G cell phone. Impressed with the power supply connector, not your typical junk coaxial power connector! Seem to be very solid build quality. Listened to the Der Ring Des Nibelungen by Sir Georg Solti which has a very vivid and open sound stage. These did not distract like other cheap speakers do.
Pros: Solid sound and prodigious output for such a small set of speakers. Well built and nice finish. Very little self noise unless you crank the volume and put your ear to the tweeter. They are keepers and I expect that they will grow on me.
Cons: They are not cheap! Some coloration to the sound. Then again for the size?

Good connectivity
Crutchfield customer from Morristown, NJ on 2/5/2021
I bought these for their small size and multi ways to connect. I'm very happy given my requirements. However, don't expect audiophile grade sound from these. Sound is acceptable for such a small speaker. Adding a sub would help but still not raise to audiophile level.

Great things come in small packages
CaptKess from Cape Coral, FL on 1/27/2021
A customer service rep helped me make this selection to meet my needs and price range. My concerns in selecting a wireless speaker were the bluetooth range and suitability for a relatively large room. My family room adjoins my kitchen and is over 400 square feet. My main objective was to stream my music from my office iMac which is over 40 feet away. I have an extensive music library in iTunes. It was easy to set up and connect to my iMac, iPad and Samsung cellphone. This little stereo speaker set met the challenge easily. The first thing you notice is how beefy these are when taking them out of the box..surprisingly heavy for their size. With volume knob cranked up half-way, my home is filled with the wonderful sound of music. You can feel these mighty mights pumping their sound waves into the room. I am very pleased with my purchase. These are not easily portable, but that was not high on the needs list for me. This wired pair is an excellent stereo sound system
Pros: Great paired stereo sound system Competitively priced Expanded bluetooth range
Cons: Not portable

Great set of small speakers sound amazing at ear level and pointed towards you. GREAT sound stage. I bought the red ones and the finish and packaging is top quality, you could probably drop the boxes of a 3 story building and the speakers would be untouched. Bought them for my wife for Valentines Day along with the S8 subwoofer. Does a phenomenal job of filling up the bedroom with sound. Comes with everything you need for setup and the microfiber bags are high enough quality to reuse for other purposes.

Fun, easy to use, and clear, good sound for the price. Perfect for a bedroom or office. I use both the wireless (bluetooth) and wired (3.5 mm jack) for inputs. I attached mine to an 8 in sub for some extra bass. Includes most all the wires you may need (in nice storage bags too!).

Outstanding desktop speakers
Crutchfield customer from West Palm Beach, FL on 5/12/2020
These are true desktop speakers and are best when you are in your normal listening position. Aim them both right at your head and they will sound very similar to headphones. Mine are on a shelf which elevates them almost to head level; if you have them down on your desk you probably need the stands to tilt the tweeters towards your ears. Like any speakers placement is the key so experiment with them. The bluetooth works perfectly and has an incredible range. All you really need is these (as they are powered speakers) and a phone and you have a fairly incredible hi-fi system. But they are best when listened to while seated at your desk. If you want to use them primarily to fill the room you might want to consider larger desktop speakers designed for that purpose.
Pros: While seated at your computer they sound like headphones.
Cons: May not be the best choice if filling a room is your primary use.

Large Sound, Small Footprint
Jace from Iowa City, IA on 4/24/2020
Really good sound for the foot print. Easily fits under my monitor at an ergonomic height. Perfect desktop speakers, with almost no noticeable vibration at normal volumes. Not an audiophile, but I really enjoy the sound although they are lacking some bass. Can be connected via USB, 3.5mm Aux, or Bluetooth. It might just be me, but I could not get Bluetooth to connect while I had it connected to my PC via USB. I also am unaware of a way to easily switch audio inputs. Glossy finish is very glossy and can be almost reflective at some points, tried to get a picture of how it reflects my keyboards RGB strip at the back. They come in some nice bags similar to Crown Royal, I will be re-using them when I end up moving them to my new apartment. Free shipping was very nice, and came in 4 days before I was expecting them. Slated for delivery on 4/28/20 and arrived on 4/24/20. Excellent service even during the Covid-19 pandemic.
Pros: Fits underneath my monitor Great sound Bluetooth Easy install Fantastic packaging materials Fast shipping
Cons: The Glossy White color is very glossy. Can attract finger prints fairly easy, although it is very easy to clean once you have them setup. This gloss also reflects RGB lighting very well almost to the point of reflection. Lacking a punchy bass. There is a power brick, although not very large. No easy input switching that I am aware of.

Excellent overall speakers, but base needs some help
Crutchfield customer from BRANDON, MS on 2/6/2020
I bought these speakers to have a nicer audio setup for my office computer. I liked the connectivity options, and the reviews regarding audio performance where very good. I have not owned any Audioengine equipment previously. I am am overall very pleased. Since the speakers are small, I built a set of desktop stands to get them the ear level, which I think significantly improved the listening experience. This is in lieu of using the slanted stands sold by the company (DS1) to project their sound upwards. I bought them together with the (recommend) Audioengine S8 subwoofer, and I'm glad I did. The speakers alone provide excellent voice performances and definition, but do not have enough inherent base performance to allow for even adequate music listening. While the stated low end frequency range extends to 65 Hz, which might make you believe that adequate base handling is in fact present, it is not. The actual frequency response curve is nowhere to be found, and I suspect it is rather sloped on the low end, accounting for this. Overall though, these are superb speakers, and combined with the subwoofer, make for an excellent 2.1 system that I would call "high end". The only real negative was the fact that the included stereo RCA cable was defective. It took me a while to figure out why the subwoofer would only respond sporadically. With a new cable ($12), all is well. I would certainly recommend the A2+ for anyone. Great sound, small
Pros: Really good looks Easy set up Many connection options Excellent mid and high range performance Excellent voice reproduction Excellent sound definition Good instructions in the box and online Decent price point
Cons: Do not live up to expectations in low range (bass) performance, but this is easily fixed with the addition of the Audioengine S8 subwoofer, which can be matched to the A2+ with ease. Came with a defective stereo RCA cable, meant to connect the A2* to the subwoofer.

Excellent speakers! I'm using these for a desktop computer (Mac mini), and the sound is much better than the Bose computer speakers they replaced. Setup was easy, and everything was packaged well. The speakers provide a lot of definition I was not hearing previously, and while I do plan to add a small sub, these speakers on their own are quite enjoyable.
Pros: Small and work well next to a computer monitor. Great sound quality, easy to set up.

Surprising Sound From Small Speakers
Guest from Charlotte, NC on 8/1/2019
My previous computer speakers broke after 6 years of use, so I bought these as an upgrade. The first thing I noticed when I saw them in person was how small they were; the woofer's diameter was about the size of a tennis ball. However, the sound that came out of these speakers was much bigger than I expected and a significant upgrade from my previous speakers. These have clear highs and mids, and they never broke up no matter how hard I pushed them. With that being said, the bass is lacking. Speakers this small cannot accurately reproduce lower frequencies without help from a separate subwoofer, so I bought the matching Audioengine S8 subwoofer and now I have no complaints.
Pros: Very compact Clear highs and mids LOUD!
Cons: Bass is lacking
