We use this with our two other BlueSound products, the Pulse2 and Pulseflex 2i. It replaces our Vault2 that died after 10 years. We attached a solid state usb drive to access the 7,000 + song library of FLAC file music. The music quality is exceptional, and we hope this one lasts longer than 10 years! Excellent streaming capabilities and connections to Bluetooth and AirPlay as well. Ours is connected to Yamaha amp and higher end bookshelf speakers - and of course the two Pulse units located in other rooms.

I was looking for product that can be plugged to my receiver and access my music library. The Bluesound NODE is the answer!!! I have an 800 GB music library in a 2 TB SSD. Bluesound NODE handles it without issues. I can listen to some internet music stations. I've read some negative reviews regarding the app. So far, I've no issues. It performs well in my PC, iPhone and iPad.

Pros: 1. Easy setup 2. Great sound, even from compressed files (mp3)

Cons: 1. It builds an index every time you turn it on when you use a SSD connected to the USB Port.

I could not get it to pair at first. So, I bought a NEW iPad. I have fairly new Bryston equipment and over 400mps internet. I had to reset it over 8 or 9 times. Finally Crutchfield sent me a replacement. They said the original was defective, since the original new Node was not functioning correctly. The replacement went haywire after almost making it through setup. I sent the replacement back, obviously junk. I once again reset the original node. And after 4 days, it works. I will NEVER buy bluesound again. I tried to rate the product a zero, but had to give it a "1" for the review.

Unbelievably better fidelity with wi-fi connection to my router (and to Tidal and their FLAC versions of my favorites). Thank You!

Exceptional streamer - super flexible, great app, easy set up, amazing sound. I'm using the digital output on the unit to my Arcam A25, so I can't comment on the DAC, but everything else is great. The app is a great central hub for all my music - better than the native apps in many cases. It decodes everything, including MQA. This replaces a NAD CS1 - it was easier to set up, is more stable switching sources, and passes higher resolution data - the only thing the NAD wins on is the form factor. I find the Node design a little dated and there's no real need for the top touch panel that I can tell. Otherwise perfect.

Pros: Supports everything in super high resolution Easy to set up Great app Consolidates multiple sources

Cons: Looks are a little dated Top panel is superfluous

I bought the NODE to bring true multichannel sound FLAC 192kHz 24bit sound to my Integra DRX 4.3 AVR. NODE was easy to set up and integrate with my ROON server (running on a Mac Studio). It works flawlessly over Ethernet. I connected the NODE to the Integra with a high performance HDMI cable. Contrary to some other opinions, the sound quality difference between super high fidelity and ordinary CD sound is huge. There are other devices available, but NODE had the best price/performance for me.

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I am disappointed to offer such a low rating on this device. For me personally, it's a 5 star because I needed a streamer that could easily handle the higher bit rate streams of Qobuz, plus I have a high tolerance for technology pain that other may not. What do I mean by that? 1) Setup was abysmal. If WiFi is your only option, it probably will work. I wanted Ethernet, which did not work. Online discussion boards suggest rebooting every router, AP, phone, laptop, etc in my house to get that working. Really? 2) Spotify is pretty much unusable. If you're one of the lucky ones to get it working, hold that thought. Eventually it will stop and the only fix will be to reboot the Node which still might not fix it. Also, if you have a family account, forget about that working easily. The Node signs you in with the first device/account that connects, and stays signed in until you are manually logged out. But don't just take my word for it, Google it, It's a real problem. 3) I'm now on day 3 waiting for Bluesound technical support to look into my Ethernet problem, no kidding. If you need their support, patience is a virtue. 4) This is probably indicative of most streamers, but if you have a family plan, do not expect that everyone can get their own music/playlists. It just doesn't work that way. 5) I use this with an external DAC. Tonality wise, nothing should have changed, but the Node brightened up the sound. No EQ settings and fixed full volu

Pros: Qobuz (probably other streaming services too, as long as you can log into the service from the Node) Optical Input (without this, the node would have gone back, but I use my original streamer to workaround the Spotify problems) Looks great. Local Shared Drive capabilities. It's a cool feature, I'll probably use it sparingly. BlueOS Controller app is decent.

Cons: Setup Spotify Spotify Family Accounts Did I mention Spotify?

Musts Wired Lan Fixed Volume On Tone Control On

Doug from CLYDE on 8/28/2023

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I have had this for about 6 months. I have enjoyed it over the WXC50 since day 1. I use a wired lan connection for the best possible sound. Wifi just does not equal a wired connection. I have none of the problems people write about yes it does lock up now and then just unplug it and move on. Compared to the WXC its smoother warmer and stronger all the way around. I first used the Node with variable volume and tone control set to off and I love this Node. Then one day I switched to fixed volume and tone control on oh my. I am running a PM8006 with Oberon 5s and a Rel tx5. What Node dont tell you is when tone control is off bass and treble are boosted by 6db. So when I turned tone control on I lost 6db across the board and oh is it noticeable. I gained tone control and a clarity in separation that is to die for. I can run the PM in direct mode and still make minor tone adjustments. No doubt this Node is more Mid Fi when tone control is on and fixed volume is used. Nothing sounds like it did over the prior 3 years so much detail and perfect soundstage. I have not seen this spoken of here in these reviews. When you lose that 6db across the board it is stark just listen it out you will adjust and it will sound better unless you just want to be the loudest. There is so much detail in there waiting for you. My internet service recently upgraded some stuff before I switched to fixed vol and on tone controls and that made a big difference but the fixed vol and tone control killed it.

Pros: I would like to know if Crutchfield techs were aware of the 6db boost? It is in the Node online manual but who reads them. I noticed the change when I switched and then researched it. It makes a huge difference with my set up your results may vary.

Cons: Who runs tone controls cranked ?

Easy to set up and at least works better than a Sonos Port which was plagued with even worse software. Physically appears to have nice build quality and fit and finish. However, it just doesn't work very well. Nonstop jitters and skipping. Bluesound support not helpful and told me to use something besides Tidal Connect, which is the whole reason I got it. Onboard DAC is lackluster. This is a $200 product with this price tag, and doesn't even work correctly. Based on research appears to be a firmware issue that has not been rectified in over a year. Most overrated product I've bought in a while. Fortunately Crutchfield was very helpful in getting a return set up.

Pros: Fit and finish Ease of set up

Cons: Sound Quality (if using DAC) Skipping Bluesound not helpful Functionally worse than Bluetooth

I'm not sure about Android, but when setting the Blusound Node up with an apple iOS device, AirPlay makes this setup extremely easy so long as you are already connected to your home wifi on your iOS device. Very simple setup. I am impressed with the app as well, though a slight learning curve if you're not used to listening to your music through a network app like this. The Node did need to be factory reset to get the initial setup completed, but afterward all has worked flawlessly since install. It looks great, and even has motion sensors on the top panel to light up the buttons when your hand gets close, very cool! Sound quality is top notch, the 32-bit/384kHz support is pretty awesome on top of the MQA file support. App integration was very simple with most apps I had tried. If you're needing a streaming device with high quality audio output, this piece will do it! Just check the list of compatible music services BEFORE you purchase to be sure you can continue using your previous favorites! I would recommend a hard-wired connection if at all possible to prevent setup issues.

Pros: Looks great, sounds great, easy setup.

Cons: Not the best setup over wifi, much easier with a hardwire connection.

Good, but not great product. Comparing to a Raspberry Pi running piCorePlayer, controlled from OrangeSqueeze app: - Incredibly easier setup than the pi. - DAC Sounds very good (but not knock-my-socks-off). Subtly different, but comparable quality to Allo Boss DAC on the pi. - About twice the cost of the pi. - BlueOS app interface, in my opinion, is not as good as OrangeSqueeze. Less attractive and clunkier to get around. Also, it didn't find all of my album art, while the pi does. OrangeSqueeze also allows me to download albums and songs from my local HD to my phone, while BlueOS does not. - Spotify Connect is spotty for me on both devices. Multiple attempts required for every new playing. - The pi allows me to set up a network share, so I can transfer downloaded music from my PC to the pi's external HDD over my local network. The Node doesn't allow this. - Node has touch controls and looks better than a Raspberry Pi.

I remain committed to physical media (I've mainly been a CD guy for over 30 years, though I also have a lot of vinyl), but this thing is neat. I like being able to stream Spotify and radio stations* from all over the world. My only complaint so far is that sometimes my phone can't seem to find the streamer; when this happens, I have to close the app and try again... and again... and again. When it works (and it always does... eventually), it's great! *The sound quality is much, much better than satellite radio, but not quite as good as an FM tuner. Still, especially for passive listening, it is more than acceptable.

I've had the NODE for about 1 week and so far I am happy with its performance. So far I: 1) played some radio stations. 2) connected to my computer using the file share function and, 3) copied files to a USB flash drive and played them using BluOs. I also signed up for a "trial subscription" to Quboz and had a horrible experience. I won't elaborate on that here. Recommendations for improvement are: 1) Make it possible to eject the USB flash drive. Part of using a USB Flash Drive is that you have to eject it now and then to load or remove files. In Windows you can right click on a USB drive in Explorer and eject the media. This functionality would be helpful in the NODE app BluOs. 2) When you have connected to a Streaming Service, add a note that you can access the service after connecting from the Main Menu (three bars).

For the short period of time I have owned it,it's been very good. I enjoy the improved sound. I like the MQA built in and I think the dac equals my external one. I'm working through a couple of things that I should have figured out soon and I'm done.

Pros: Very good sound

Cons: Operating system is a little clunky

$600 paperweight

J from USA on 1/19/2023

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Expensive paperweight. When it works, it's great. Does it always work as designed? Nope. Player completely stopped recognizing my tv via HDMI after rearranging my audio/video setup. I spent several emails with BlueSound that did absolutely nothing to help - so now if I want to watch something/listen to something on my tv I can't listen in HD/UHD - I can only connect via Bluetooth and the sound is just not as good. I bought this steamer SPECIALLY to stream in HD/UHD. That was failure number 1. Next came when I took the steamer off a direct Ethernet connection in favor of the less messy WiFi option. It failed again. This is a new product right? Shouldn't have any problems connecting to a WiFi router? Think again! I followed all directions on the NODE's support page to no avail. This is a piece of junk and it's far too difficult to use - and I'm relatively savvy when it comes to electronics etc. DO NOT BUY THIS, ESPECIALLY IF THE USER IS NOT TECH SAVVY.

Pros: It's sort of small and fairly heavy, so it could make an ok paperweight.

Cons: No WiFi connections, no HDMI connections - which means NO SOUND, NO MUSIC. NO THANKS!

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Am using this only as the means of sending HR streaming audio via wi-fi to my stereo setup, so I'll only comment on it in that light. It sounds terrific from the analog output, which is all I'm using, so the D/A converter must be good. A massive improvement over what comes in an IPad etc. Easy to set up, even if it is one's initial foray into the streaming world.

Pros: Attractive, solid build quality. Set it up and forget all about it.

Cons: None really, just too bad there isn't another (less expensive, not that this is terribly costly) good option given the limited functionality I presently need, but who knows - I may grow into it.

Replaced a Raspberry Pi/fancy digital board with the Node. Painless set-up and start up. Flawless operation using Ethernet connection and coaxial output to my DAC. Bought primarily to add Amazon Music functionality that I could not get through other hardware. Took off one star for value - there are far more expensive units out there, but there is one with more advanced Amazon integration and 90% of the Bluesound functionality for 1/4 of the price.

Pros: Has all the music services and connectivity points I need, excellent build quality and integration with BluOS app

Cons: Integration of Amazon Music into the BluOS app could be a lot better - seeing artist with album, not as full featured as the Amazon Music app.

I can't get over the clarity. Using Amazon Music-HD, Tune-in, SiriusXM, Rhapsody. If you have not jumped on the streaming deal yet.... why are you wasting your time? Very impressed. OS takes a bit of a learning curve but after 3 days it' very operable. Highly recommend. You will not be disappointed.

Huge improvement over Primare NP5

Bari from Okemos, MI on 12/28/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I finally retired a Primare NP5 streamer due to its unreliability in being detected on my local wifi system as a "device". I decided to try the NODE. It's been a huge improvement in terms of reliability. The BluOS always sees my node on my local network. Always. That problem was fixed. Unfortunately the streaming audio playground is complex. Not all streaming services will work directly "through" the Node. I have my Node connected to my internet via ethernet cable. I control it from an IPAD using the streaming service apps (Spotify and Tidal) both of which "see" my Node and instruct it to load and play the songs I want. This is like chrome cast or direct connect. Both Spotify and Tidal work well in this regard with the Node. Not so for Amazon Music or Qobuz. For those there isn't a direct connect option (so far). You're sending the audio signals from your iPad/iPhone to the Node by airplay or bluetooth. This is really undesirable -- an incoming phone call will interfere with your audio, and you're limited to the audio quality of your phone or iPad. So far it looks like I have a functional direct connect with Spotify and Tidal. Qobuz is nearly unusable with my Node. Amazon music works OK but again, only through an airplay type of connection. Do your homework on this to see what is likely the right connectivity for your utility. This streaming audio world is still a bit of the Wild West. Lots of different connection protocols to navigate for compatibili

Pros: Super easy setup and highly reliable device detection on my LAN

Cons: Doesn't provide direct connections with some streaming services

Excellent sound quality. Superb streaming solution with lots of flexibility. The BluOS apps for iOS and MacOS are excellent and updated frequently. This is my 3rd Node. I'm using one with the BlueSound Pulse Sub + wirelessly and its integration is well done. Use a wired sub if you wish via RCA connector. If you are using a sub hooked directly to your amplifier be sure sub is selected OFF in the BluOS app so you don't limit the low frequencies going to your amplifier. No amplifier yet? Plug in or Bluetooth your headphones and enjoy the music. A solid wireless connection is a must to avoid dropouts. It's easy to monitor this in the diagnostics portion of the app. If you stream HD audio (more than CD quality) the solid data connection is a must due to higher bandwidth demand. This is where a solid 5mHz band WiFi signal will pay dividends. I use one of my units with Ethernet with no issues at anytime. Think you can do better with your own DAC or want to experiment with one? No problem. You can connect one to the NODE and play away. I'm quite happy with the internal DAC in use with 3 different systems. In summary, this is a great all in one streaming solution with a very mature and well supported operating system.

Pros: Great sound. Well thought out all in one streaming solution. Integrates well with multiple BluOS family devices.

Cons: Needs a solid WiFi signal for streaming. Needs a high bandwidth WiFi signal for best HD streaming.

I'm very happy with this unit. I flailed a little getting getting BluOS setup on my iPhone, but finally got it. Connecting to my Wi-Fi and Tidal and SiriusXM subscriptions was pretty straightforward. I'm connected to my amp via the co-ax output, so I'm not using the unit's internal DAC. I have an extensive CD collection and have them all ripped to my laptop as MP3s at the highest bit rate. I dumped it all to a thumb drive, which I have plugged into the back of the Bluesound. I hardly ever use the CD player anymore. Adding this piece of gear to my system has increased the flexibility and ease of controlling my system immensely. Controlling the Node from my iPhone is very easy. I also bought the accessory remote control, but don't feel like I'll ever find any use for it.

Pros: Added a huge degree of operator convenience to my system

Nice upgrade. Five stars is a stretch for $500 but it does have a DAC which some may find useful. Used as a streamer into a dedicated pre-amp with a DAC and it sounds just fine. Internal Node DAC was tried also since insanely " Hi-res " ability is the thing now, but I don't really hear anything "better" and frankly I didn't expect to since this was purchased as a streamer to replace an ancient Sonos bridge that was failing.and I needed something with a great easy-to-use application to manage services, songs, playlists, etc. As a value proposition with a nod to a nice interface then this is great. If one just needs a streamer irrespective of the application with fewer supported services then there are less expensive options. Naturally there are more expensive options also, but few with just the right balance. YMMV.

Pros: Easy. Fast. Great interface.

Cons: DAC is ho-hum.not bad if a DAC is necessary.

This is my first foray into streaming and so far I am enjoying the addition of the Bluesound Node. I was up and running in minutes! This rounds out my "Built by Crutchfield System". The Node interface on my tablet is decent to navigate once you pickup where a few options are stored. I have the Node hooked up to my Parasound P6 with RCA as well as optical. I tried the USB out but that was buggy with the P6. I had it working once but had to power cycle the P6 to get it work and that's not a process I want to continue. I can't say I hear a difference between the two, optical vs RCA ( basically the difference in DACs), but I do now hear what I would describe as deficiencies in some of the music. At least with them both being active if there is something in MQA I can switch to the RCA and let the DAC in the Node decode that music. Otherwise I use the DAC in the P6. I do want to upgrade to Amazon music so I can compare CD with Spotify with HI- Res. I can't say enough about Crutchfield as a whole and Pat at the Harrisonburg store.

Pros: Build Quality

Cons: USB output functionaity

I'd give this piece of gear 5 stars if it weren't for the laughable manual. Not all of us are "intuitive" to the ways of the digital age. Unable to connect with Crutchfield's tech help, I slogged thru a hit and miss effort to get my external hard drive to play and then likewise with streaming radio and music services. I'm sure there are better, shorter methods but you'll not find it easily on your own if you're over 50 and a hardcore analog guy; guilty on both counts. I'm also sure I've only scratched the surface regarding the Nodes features but thus far it is doing what I primarily wanted it to do. It's amazing. The Node is by all accounts extremely versatile and while I've yet to venture further into its capabilities, I found it fairly easy to use once I became familiar with the app. It's spartan compact design takes up very little space in my kit. Compared to other similar devices, the Node is a bargain. I would have liked XLR outputs but at this price the RCA's are fine. You'd pay north of double for a similar DAC/streamer with XLR's. Bottom line: It's still early in the relationship but so far we're getting along nicely. At this price, the Node is definitely worth considering if you're looking to boldly go where you've never been before and not run out of dilithium crystal. Kirk out.

Pros: Price. Build quality. Versatility. App.

Cons: Laughable start up manual makes IKEA instructions look like Shakespeare.

Not quite Primetime

Verified employee review (What's this?)

There are many positive reviews for this product, and I can see why. However, I am being a little creative in my system and some of the nuanced features of the device perform variably or not as 'intended'. The intention of my use-case was pre-empted on the features available as described not knowing much about BluOS interface with the Bluesound Node. My primary purpose of buying this piece was to more seamlessly integrate my integrated amp to my TV via the HDMI ARC functionality and trigger out. At first I thought it was a 'broke concept'. The unit does not turn off when one turns off the TV and though there was an issue CEC ARC. After troubleshooting online. One really is supposed to not turn off the unit typically and it will send an off signal to the amp in 15 minutes after no signal otherwise. I believe this to be intended so it doesn't just turn off when the TV turns off when starting to stream music. Ok. What is not ok is the unit loses lip sync routinely and has audio dropouts when switch back to HDMI as an input. USB DAC out feature worked flawlessly with TIDAL Connect or Native app; however, had audio dropouts when using Roon. Not having discrete Analog and digital out functionality is odd. Audio from all outputs run simultaneously (coax opt, Analog). USB DAC is a discrete selectable output. Why different? On two occasions full signal delivered via HT bypass. No longer sent to HT bypass My experience resulted in flaws with some essential features.

Pros: 1.) HDMI ARC - implementation 2.) External DAC not required 3.) Variable out Preamp 4.) Good build quality 5.) Expanded compatibility with streaming services

Cons: 1.) HDMI ARC implementation has flaws not witnessed on other more budget components. 2.) Using an external DAC introduced issues with audio dropouts and much trouble shooting. 3.) Variable out Preamp is not discrete from digital outputs 4.) Not a fan of BluOS and Roon has audio dropouts via USB out.

Upgrade AVRs without built-in DAC

Verified employee review (What's this?)

An upgrade from the 2 DACs I tried from another retailer. They sounded like AM radio. Easily paired with my Spotify, Amazon music and Qobuz accounts. Great steaming stations built-in too. Good way to hear new music. Heavy and well made. Listen to mostly classic rock. The sound is better with Hi Res and HD cuts. Most of the cuts I listen to are CD quality on the streaming services. The new Revolver remix sounds great. Switching between pure direct CDs on my Denon AVR 3805, which still rocks, and the Node, the CDs still sound better but an upgrade from the other DACs as noted. Would recommend for AVRs like mine that were made before built-in DACs. Better deal than buying a new receiver or buying more CDs. The Crutchfield rep was very helpful. Will buy from them again. Peace, Love and Music.

Pros: Ease of use. Always on so once you're set-up you're good to go. Small size so it fits in wherever it's plugged in to a power source. Less expensive than other quality DACs. Comes with the cables needed for set-up.

Cons: Doesn't sound as good as CDs. Cymbals sound splashy.

Very good, yet disappointing. My point of comparison is the Slim Devices/Logitech Squeezebox players I used for many years, until my beloved Duet streamers started failing. Importantly, I use mine streaming to my main stereo setup, not Bluesound speakers, so those doing the later may not find this helpful. After a month or so of use, the Node offers somewhat better sound -- more spacious and lively, perhaps. The improvement is noticeable, not dramatic. Specs indicate the Squeezebox streamed at CD quality, the Node higher, and i'm not sure there is really that much difference. the Node has some capabilities Squeezebox did not, e.g., Sirius/XM (nice), Alexa/Google voice connectivity (not very functional), several others. Yet, I day ultimately "disppointing" because the BluOS interface is so very rudimentary and cumbersome. Limited play settings, difficult searching, awkward queue management, etc. Bluesound has been around several years and is owned by NAD, so it is surprising that the interface would be so basic in comparison to what Slim Devices introduced, what, 20 years ago. To me ease of use matters a lot, and while BluOs is manageable it is not "friendly," at least to me after about 1 month. There are many streamers out there now, and if doing again I'd focus more on the interface, however hard that is to investigate.

Pros: Sound quality, affordability, wealth of available music services

Cons: User interface.

I've had a multi-room Sonos system in my home for over 10 years now. It has worked flawlessly. Over the past year and a half, I've been building a new higher-end two-channel audio system that didn't need to have a steamer on whole-house system. With all the glowing reviews of the Bluesound Node devices, I decided to try one out for the new system. After struggling with a Bluesound Node for over a year, I'm regretting my decision and wishing that I had just purchased another Sonos Port (I have an older one on another system). I mainly use the streamer for discovering new music with an Amazon high resolution account. I like searching with an iPad using AirPlay. The problem is the Bluesound hasn't worked reliably with Airplay since day one. Sometimes it works, and many times it doesn't. I have two iPads and they both can't seem to make a reliable connection. I never know if Airplay is going to work, or not. Yet, my Sonos system ALWAYS works. This issue combined with poor Bluesound customer service - I sent an email a long time ago and never got a response - has left me desiring a Sonos Port. In addition, the Bluesound Node doesn't do Pandora (which is my other music subscription) and Sonos does.

Great streamer; difficult to set up computer music library & Bluetooth

Steve from ARCATA, CA on 10/4/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

This is my first music streamer, but I have a vintage high-end system and am fairly technically adroit. It was quick and easy to set it up for wireless streaming, and the audio quality is as good as I'm used to with my Cambridge Audio CXN universal disc player. I was able to match volume levels and compare the NODE's DAC to the CXN's DAC in A/B comparisons, and there was little difference with CD-quality sources. The app is pretty good, if you're not so hardcore that you want all the info you would get from liner notes, etc. Where the NODE was problematic was the difficulty in connecting it with the music library (over 2000 titles) on my 2019 MacBook Pro, which is updated to the latest OS. I had a long phone call with Crutchfield's technical advisor which failed to resolve the problem. I have a 21-email exchange going with the BluOS tech support team, and a lengthy phone session with their person didn't resolve the problem, even though she had screen sharing access to my computer. However, in the second phone session several days later she was able to resolve it. But now I have been unable to pair my Sennheiser Bluetooth earbuds to the NODE, and I am currently engaged in email exchanges with Bluesound's customer support to resolve this issue.

Pros: Excellent audio; easy set up of streaming; good app

Cons: Difficulties linking it to computer music library and Bluetooth earbuds.

I'm very happy with this unit. It was super easy to set up and get going - it literally took a couple of minutes and it was streaming away. I've connected it to my Tidal account and it streams their high quality (MQA) music. Plus, there are little symbols for the quality of the 'album' and on the song it notes the quality (such as MQS). I do this using the app. I also use it for AirPlay.

Brought out clarity from Tidal Master audio that was not available using other sources. Ability to use internal DAC via RCA out and external DAC via optical or coax at the same time lets you quickly compare and pick which DAC is better for your use. Good sound and easy to use.

I have had another streamer. I thought it was good, with top-shelf DACs and on-chip MQA decoding. It developed problems, and the Node is a replacement. The Node was incredibly easy to hook up. I used the Node's analog outputs. The WiFi connectivity is really good. The best part is its sound. It takes streamed MQA files and makes them sound effortlessly clear. It has made Tidal Masters my new reference source for music. The Node performs far better than my old device. I recommend it highly.

Great budget streamer/DAC. I've got two thus far. Paired one with my analog-only Yamaha AS1200 to serve up Tidal MQA and FLAC files from my Plex server in my two-channel listening set-up. Also makes a great digital pre-amp with TOSLINK and HDMI inputs to handle sound from my TV and Roku. BluOS and its app just work, which seems to be a problem with many other streaming audio platforms. Sound from the DAC is clear and soundstage is well-sorted and reasonably wide. Got a second one for my Marantz SR7015 after getting completely fed-up with their buggy HEOS platform. Again, BluOS just works. Sounds great with the Marantz Auro3D upmix on my 5.2.4 set-up. The Bluesound Node is hard to beat at this price.

I thought long and hard about a network streamer until I finally decided to unload all of my vinyl and turntable and pull the trigger. I haven't looked back since! The Node was expertly shipped and made it to my front door in a day and a half. From unboxing to streaming was probably less than 10 minutes, which included a firmware update. The BluOS app is free to download and easy to use. I don't use the app to steam (you can), only to control the settings on the unit itself and to bypass the Node's built-in DAC. There's nothing actually wrong with it.I simply prefer the DAC in my integrated amp. The sound quality is solid and you can't beat the convenience in my opinion. Streaming from AmazonHD there is about a second delay between play/pause and track skips, but to not have to get up from my couch and flip the record over or switch out CDs it's a small price to pay! The Node is perfect for the lazy wannabe audiophile like myself! There are much more expensive streamers out there and quite a few cheaper ones as well. THIS is a fantastic middle of the road option for someone looking to add to their growing set up.

Pros: -Solid sound and build quality. -Many options to integrate into system. -Easy set up

Cons: None so far for me!

Used as streamer to DAC with eArc in

I have a stereo system with a 25 watt class A amp, Class A Headphone amp/linestage and relaxed resister ladder DAC going to 10" quasi full range drivers. I am not big into spending for streaming devices and suspect the BlueOS chipset is universal across Bluesound and NAD. I ended up using the USB stereo out to external DAC and did not get a good result from the Coax cable. It could be external DAC, so not a big issue. I am very pleased using as a dedicated USB streamer. I also use as trigger out and eARC input features. One important setting is to default to HDMI when source is available. This important option is few levels deep in interface. It can also sync with TV Spotify app somehow while NODE is the source. Most people would likely use this as volume controlled DAC with RCA outs as well. It was huge improvement over Nvidia streamer used as USB source and probably few percent less than high end streamer I demo'd locally. No need to be intimidated by set up. I was up and running in 10 minutes. Advanced features perhaps in a a day or two can become familiar based on familiarity with streamers or app.

Pros: Easy Setup / Stable connectivity Endless streaming source options >95% as good as any high end streamer bypassing DAC.

Cons: Coax output was flat sounding. Lack of austerity in app interface; (features spread around in not much order) Could be offered cheaper without DAC option included.

A must have device

Verified employee review (What's this?)

This is a must have device for a music fan. I used to stream music from my I-Pad by Bluetooth to my receiver. It sounded great but this Node makes it sound so upscaling. The sound is so clear and flawless. I have it connected through the the digital output because the DAC in my receiver is way better. Don't get me wrong the DAC in the Node is pretty decent but it does not compare to my receiver so I get the digital signal directly from the Node. The setup was very easy. The included hi-res radio stations was a nice bonus. I mainly bought it to play Amazon Music Unlimited since I wanted to buy a more expensive streamer but it did not support Amazon. The Node has them all, Amazon, Tidal, Spotify you name them it has it. The only thing I think is negative it does not bring a remote control for us old school people. I like having something I can push buttons. There is a remote control available but you have to buy it separately, bummer! Other than that for the price you get a great sound that probably rivals other more expensive music streamers.

Pros: Great sound, nice radio stations, easy setup and best of all the price compared to other high end music streamers.

Cons: No included remote control. The DAC could be better but it has digital output if you want to upscale the digital signal to a better DAC.

Overall Good, Bluetooth streaming is disappointing

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Overall I am pleased with the unit. Setup was pretty easy and the sound quality is very good. I have two gripes with the unit. First, the App is pretty clunky and cumbersome to use. Interface to Tidal from within the BluOs app is quite limited and difficult to navigate and find your music. I have to go into the Tidal app to find my music and then select the Bluesound unit as the play to device. Second, you cannot stream to a Bluetooth speaker and use the analogue output simultaneously. When you plug in headphones or stream to a Bluetooth device, the unit mutes the analogue output. I was really hoping to use this unit to stream to some patio speakers at the same time as listening inside the house. I confirmed with the manufacturer that this is intentional in the design and they don't plan to change it. They suggest an audio splitter and a separate Bluetooth transmitter. I was trying to reduce clutter in my setup; not going to happen with this unit. Other than that, I like the unit.

Pros: Easy setup, nice looking, very good sound quality.

Cons: Clunky app. Analogue output mutes when sending to Bluetooth speaker or headphones.

Good Quality at Reasonable Price

Robert from Highland, NY on 5/26/2022

Verified customer (What's this?)
Verified employee review (What's this?)

I am new to streaming, began with the HEOS app in my Marantz receiver. It is a big leap from the FM tuner days. Although HEOS conveniently lives in my receiver, the app is a test of patience and will. The Node 2i seemed an opportunity for improvement: good quality, flexibility, and good reviews at a "starter" price. I was not willing to invest a mortgage payment or two to go to the next streaming level at this stage. I used 2i with Amazon Music from my Prime membership. It was good, at least as good as the sound of a CD. Upgraded to Amazon HD, a noticeable improvement over non-HD or the same music from my CD's. The 2i DAC is OK, but not appreciably better than the Marantz DAC. A separate DAC would no doubt raise the bar even more, but at additional cost. The Bluesound app is good, but Amazon doesn't play well with it. An app like Qobuz would likely integrate better, but since streaming is a nice-to-have for me, not a necessity, I did not feel the overall investment of streamer, DAC and monthly service worthwhile. I opted to stick with Amazon HD via clunky HEOS when I wanted to stream music, and returned the 2i. The return was not a fault of the 2i, instead recognition of my reality: limited use of streaming, using the equipment I already had. As it turns out, I just upgraded my Marantz to an Arcam AVR, and along with other substantial improvements, the overall streaming result is markedly better. For the price difference, it better be.

Pros: good app, good quality, reasonable price for getting into streaming.

Cons: Bluesound app does not play especially well with Amazon Music; Amazon seems to do their own thing and they do not go out of their way to integrate with third party apps. The 2i DAC is OK for basic listening, but a quality external dac should be considered with this.

Excellent Streamer/DAC for Tidal /MQA

1mrdad from Queen Creek, AZ on 5/17/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

I bought the Node specifically to stream Tidal/MQA. I wanted a dac/streamer that could render all 3 steps of the MQA decoding for maximum playback quality. I highly recommend this product. I compared it to the Cambridge dacmagic 200m, and the IFI streamer DAC combo. I felt that the Bluesound was the "best bang for the buck". From what I could research, there was very little if any audible difference between the three. I had been streaming Tidal app from my Sony A8H TV going through the DAC on my Denon 6400h, but I was only getting the first unfolding. I am using rca outputs on the Bluesound Node (so it's DAC decodes MQA) into the Denon 6400 H which is feeding a Parasound A31 amp. There is a noticable improvement in sound quality. The music (smooth jazz) sounds like it is just "there". All of the instruments sound natural and effortless. Everything is cleaner and tighter. I am unable to accurately describe how much better the music sounds. I can't speak for other streaming app sources. As I said, I bought the Bluesound Node specifically to stream Tidal. As an afterthought , setup was a breeze, and the BlueOS app is very easy to use. Also, I have been streaming over my wifi network with no problems. I have not experienced any dropouts.

Pros: Perfect for complete Tidal/MQA playback Exceptional sound quality (with Tidal) Quick easy setup BlueOS app easy to use

Not Bad OK

Crutchfield customer from Avon, CT on 5/14/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

Pros: (i) Quite heavy and well built; (ii) Very easy to set up; the subwoofer out is handy, although I am not using it since the sub is connected to my pre-amp; (iii) currently hi-res audio more or less implies 24bit-192kHz, but this unit has the capability to handle higher sampling rates. (iv) Not using wi-fi setup, so it's good that it has an ethernet port. (v) Comes with an RCA cable, but I am using a premium brand audio cable, so can't comment on the quality of that RCA cable supplied. Cons: (i) Quite expensive. For almost half the price, you can get streamer/pre-amp from reputed manufacturers (example Yamaha, currently unavailable). Yes, there is a screen, which pretty much does nothing and won't be used much since you will do everything through the BluOS App anyways. So, not sure why it is premium priced; (ii) At this price point, I'd expect a top-of-the-line DAC, like ESS Sabre, or AKM etc.. Maybe the built-in proprietary DAC is great, but I am using an external DAC still. (iii) The BluOS App is not that bad, but integration with the Qobuz App could be better. Qobuz sounds great and also has "roon-like features", but the app is not designed as well as Spotify or Tidal. Better than Amazon Music though. Anyways, the Qobuz app has some shortcomings to begin with, :) but with this BluOS App, your life will get even more difficult if you are using Qobuz for streaming. You just have to live with that, not a huuuge issue, but still. Therefore, 4-stars I'm afraid.

Good features - poor sound

John from Boston, MA on 5/12/2022

Verified employee review (What's this?)

The most important feature of this streamer is its worst - the sound quality. I've tried all output types using high quality cables and the sound is consistently flat and thin. The bass and midbass are especially poor. I switched between Node, Bluetooth (Tidal master quality material) & CD, using a handful of tracks I'm very familiar with. Same source (for Node and Bluetooth), songs and amp audio input settings: Through the Node, very thin & flat. Bass lines and bass character I know are on the tracks is lost. Switch to the other sources and - although some of the detail from master quality is muted - the fullness of the whole presentation is back and details in the lower frequencies is back. The mids & highs are pretty good and detailed - Didn't have an issue there. The DAC in this is just not great or something midstream results in some mediocre output. Changing the BluOS tone controls for the Node made the sound even worse. I'm running through an 80W Arcam AB amp and have played through KEF R3's and Focal Chora 826's. Some positives: It's easy to setup, I do like the current version of BluOS quite a bit, mids & highs sound good and show lots of detail. If overall sound quality wasn't so poor, this would be such a great unit.

Pros: BluOS works great for me. With master quality material, mids and highs are very detailed.

Cons: Thin sounding. Mid-bass to bass very, very weak. Tone controls make sound worse.

I could be right in the hall where the musicians are playing. My listening emphasizes acoustic instruments (acoustic jazz, classical - matching my music background) and plenty of movies - two seemingly opposite ends of the spectrum. Adding the Bluesound Node made an immediately noticeable improvement in sound quality. After trying several alternatives to feed a high quality Tidal stream through the receiver, including the receivers embedded Tidal streaming feature, for whatever reason the Apple TV 4k and Chromecast seemed to do the best job so far. Pretty good, but still not what I was hoping to achieve. But once the Bluesound Node was installed the sound opened up and was remarkably cleaner, smoother, and subtleties in the recordings were much easier to discern. The lifelike qualities of acoustic instruments is amazing. Guitar, woodwinds, brass, percussion, piano all sound like they are right in front of you. A remarkable accomplishment. I can't complement this device enough. Highly recommend trying it. Just remember that improving one component could lead you to improve others.

Pros: Listen to music as if the musicians were right in front of you. No need for golden ears to hear a qualitative difference, especially with MQA streams.

Cons: You might find that you want to upgrade other components so the system can keep up with the Bluesound node.

DAC sounds great and connectivity is very good. Set-up was very easy/took no time. Working well with Qobuz so far. Classy looking unit. Can't turn off led, which is annoying in our bedroom. Would rate it 4.5 out of 5 if Crutchfield had that level of granularity.

App is terrible. 1) Unresponsive/Delay - no matter what I click on there is a delay of 3 seconds to 2 minutes 2) Only imported a fraction of my Amazon HD playlists. 3) I have tried it with Qobuz as well, same lag issues 4) Tech support response was to shrug and say best of luck 5) Navigating app is terrible - can't add to playlists, can't view albums or artists or songs easily. Truly awful Sound: 3.5/5 Returning this thing and going for something else

Pros: 1) Form factor - beautiful and compact design 2) Ease of use (plug it in and go) 3) the HYPE machine online (or is that the bad)

Cons: App - truly terrible Sound

This Bluesound Node is a must buy for all audiophiles. It really brings the crisp, delicate sound of background instruments to the forefront of the listening experience. Overall it creates an excellent sound.

Pros: It is very easy to set up, though it may take a few minutes depending on your connection. I can fix my preferred settings on the app so I can control my sound from my amplifier.

Cons: If you have a rack setup, the controls on the top will not be accessible. I found it hard to connect the device to my HDMI port, and I had to use Bluetooth instead.

Superb Sound Quality, Convenience and Value

I bought this about five months ago, and have waited this long to ensure I got the full measure of the NODE before reviewing it. In a word, the NODE is stunning. I expected the internal DAC to be inferior to my Schiit Modi 3+, and initially thought that was the case, but extended listening proved me wrong-the NODE's internal DAC is superior. I also evaluated the headphone output and was delighted to find it drives my Grado SR325e headphones beautifully. I have the NODE wired directly to my router via Ethernet, and the connection is rock-solid. While not perfect, the BluOS software is quite capable if a bit clunky. I have a 1 TB SSD drive connected to the USB port on the NODE, and have copied my complete iTunes library there. Using the remote Bluesound app on my iPad, I can now access my iTunes tracks, Qobuz and Tunein radio stations with just a finger swipe. More importantly, the sound quality is just glorious, with a combination of smoothness, detail and rhythmic push and drives that's addictive. I spend hours and hours listening, and never come close to listening fatigue. I truly believe this is one of the best value audio products on the market today!

Pros: Sound quality, convenience, value for money.

Cons: BluOS software can be a bit clunky and inefficient for certain tasks.

Bluesound NODE

After testing a few streamers, DACs and Amps over the course of 5 to 6 months, I ended up landing on the Bluesound Node paired with a Musical Fidelity M6S amplifer. The combination is extremely satisfying. The DAC in this new node is really capable on its own. I tried it with outboard DACs and some integrated amplifiers from Parasound, Cambridge and others and felt like the internal DAC was more than sufficient and could hold its own, if not outperform most of the others. This was my first journey into moving away from disc based media and into streaming services like Qobuz and Tidal, along with my own ALAC library on my iPhone. What I will say is that the player requires the right set up. It requires a good amplifier or speakers with amplification and it also REALLY requires a good network setup. You can't stream hi res with this device in a wifi environment with interference. I learned quickly that wired over ethernet is the best way forward with Bluesound. I ended up building small Roon server with an Intel NUC and recently picked up the Bluesound PowerNode and Pulse Plus Soundbard. The PowerNode arrived and is extremely impressive. I seamlessly stream between my nodes and group them in Roon for playback in multiple Zones. I'm thrilled with my Bluesound setup.

Pros: Great DAC Affordable Simple interface Roon compatible Supports many types of transmission- bluetooth, Airplay, Hi Res services Attractive Runs Cool Small footprint

Cons: Must have a strong network connection (wired preferred) Software can be glitchy on occasion but is easily rectified

Awesome Streaming Music Player

Awesome piece of gear! This unit was an absolute pleasure to setup and use! I have an iPhone and setting it up using their BluOS app was a breeze! I also really enjoyed the Tune In steaming service which is included and accessible thru the app as well. Something I thought was a really nice touch were the presets on the top of the unit. It was so convenient to save my most listened to stations along with my desired volume settings to a quick and easy to access button. The sound quality was great and the unit itself was small enough to sit right on my desk. I would highly recommend this piece if you are in the market for a streaming music player.

Pros: Very easy setup with an iPhone/iPad Sound quality Presets Small footprint Tune In streaming service included thru BluOS app Easy to use Apple AirPlay built in

Cons: Shows finger prints and dust - needs frequent cleaning

Surprisingly easy to set up. Great sound quality. Better than CDs. However, it often fails to connect with Tune In streaming radio. Not sure if the problem is with the streamer or Tune In. The search app not as good as Androver Songbird's.

excellent streamer / DAC at entry level price

Really excellent, well-thought out streamer at a terrific price point. Installation only took me about 15-20 minutes including downloading apps. Sound quality was very good, definitely better than what I had expected at this price point. I own some very high end gear, and this streamer / DAC combo does not reach that level, but is very impressive and satisfying nonetheless. I have the NODE playing through very high end speakers at the moment, and the sound is superb. Great bass, extended treble, a sweet mid-range and superb imaging and air around the instruments...not a lot of complaints here.
