About the Sonus faber Lumina I

Handsome, compact stand-mount speakers

Compact Sonus faber Lumina I speakers allow you to create a minimalist sound system that looks and sounds incredible.
Handsome, compact stand-mount speakers
Sonus faber Lumina I speakers have a relatively small footprint[.] Use them for high-performance stereo sound in a smaller listening space, or as front or surround speakers in a compact home theater system. Each includes a 4-3/4" woofer and a trademarked 1-1/8" silk tweeter that deliver the excellent sound the Italian speaker maker is known for. The cabinet's multi-layer wood front baffle helps shape and refine the sound, and black synthetic leather accents add an elegant touch to its visual profile.
The name of this speaker series incorporates the noteworthy attributes that define the entire range: LUxury + MInimalism + NAtural materials = LUMINA.
Welcome to the D.A.D.™ dome
No, it's not an arena where middle-aged fathers engage in winner-take-all pun battles — it's a very impressive tweeter design. The Damped Apex Dome (D.A.D.) is a hand-coated soft silk diaphragm that was originally designed for Sonus faber's elegant, luxurious Sonetto Series speakers. By damping the very apex of the tweeter's dome, distortion is reduced to a minimum, for pleasing, natural-sounding highs. This top-end tweeter helps define the warm, accurate voice of the Lumina I.
Consider using speaker stands
While the Lumina Is can be placed just about anywhere, we recommend putting them on a solid pair of speaker stands to position the tweeters at ear height and reduce vibrations that can color the sound.
About Sonus faber
The Latin expression Sonus faber translates to “artisan of sound" — a lofty benchmark that the Italian speaker maker has been meeting since its founding in 1983. Renowned for the sonic and visual beauty of their speakers — including many world-class, cost-no-object models — Sonus imparts a high level of speaker-building know-how into models throughout their impressive lineup.

Features
1.125" D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) Tweeter: The Lumina I bookshelf loudspeaker features Sonus faber's iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome) tweeter with a 1.125" hand-coated soft silk diaphragm and Sonus faber's exclusive visco-elastically baffle decoupling for exceptional high frequency reproduction.
4.75" Cellulose Pulp Cone Woofer: The Sonus faber Lumina I bookshelf speaker houses a 4.75" mid-woofer with a custom-made cellulose pulp cone blended with other natural fibers, a robust rubber surround, and a specially-designed, ultra-free compression basket for a natural sound that is both dynamic and linear.
Specifically Designed Crossover: The Lumina I bookshelf speaker utilizes a specifically designed 2-way crossover with Sonus faber branded high-quality capacitors for a smooth transition between the tweeter and mid-woofer driver with optimized amplitude, phase, space, and timing.
Bass Reflex Multi-Layer Wood Enclosure: The Lumina I bookshelf speaker uses a multi-layer wood cabinet with a real-wood veneer front baffle that is available in a Walnut, Wenge, or Black finish. The outer sides and top of the speaker enclosure are covered with a black synthetic leather material. The included cloth grille magnetically attaches to the front of the speaker. The cabinet is a bass reflex design with a front-firing port for greater extension in low frequencies and reduction of distortion. The front-firing port also allows for more placement options, allowing you to even place the speaker closer to a back wall.
Dual Nickel-Plated Binding Post Terminals: The Lumina I has two sets of nickel-plated binding posts connected by jumpers. Using the dual binding posts, you can bi-amp or bi-wire the speakers (make sure to remove the jumpers in this scenario). The binding post terminals will accept banana plugs (single only), pin-connectors, spade-connectors, and bare wire (up to 10AWG). The nickel-plated binding post terminals provide excellence signal transfer and resistance to corrosion.
- Bi-Wiring: Bi-wiring can provide noticeable improvements in the overall transparency of your loudspeakers. Run separate speaker wires to the low & high frequency drivers from a single amplifier (the upper set of binding posts are for the high frequency drivers; the lower set of binding posts are for the low frequency drivers).
- Bi-Amping: Bi-amping allows you to use separate amplifiers for the high & low frequency sections of your loudspeaker for greater dynamic range & lower distortion. We recommend that your separate amplifiers have identical gain to preserve the speaker's voicing balance.
Note: If you decide to bi-wire or bi-amp, you must remove the jumpers between the terminal posts (failure to do this could result in damage to your amplifier and loudspeakers).
Mounting & Placement Options: The Lumina I bookshelf loudspeaker is perfect for stereo listening, but is also ideal for use as front & rear channels in a home theater setup. The Sonus faber Lumina I can be positioned on a stand (sold separately - see Accessories Tab), bookshelf, tabletop, or other flat mounting surface. An integrated soft pad on the bottom of the speaker cabinet prevents scratches and damages to your mounting sruface.
- You should position a pair of speakers so they form an equilateral triangle with one another and the main seated listening position.
- The pair of speakers can be "toed-in" and angled inward to aim the sound at the main listening area for a better stereo soundstage.
- The two loudspeakers should be at least 6' apart from each other. The listening point should be at a height of approximately 3.625' off the ground.
- It is recommended to position the speakers away from the corners of the room, and at a distance of at least 3.3125' from the back wall.
Note: The Lumina I does not offer any brackets, keyhole slots, or threaded-inserts to wall-mount the speakers.
Lumina Collection: The Lumina collection pays tribute to Sonus faber's historic heritage and are made in Italy. The Lumina series boasts the core values of Sonus faber with the use of its iconic materials - including synthetic leather, natural composition of drivers, and real multilayer wood cabinets. The Lumina line-up consists of two floorstanding loudspeakers (Lumina III/Lumina V), two bookshelf loudspeakers (Lumina I/Lumina II), and a center-channel speaker (Lumina CI). The Lumina collection delivers uncompromised sound performance that is perfect for a two-channel stereo setup or a multi-channel home theater system.
Optional Subwoofer: Add on a Sonus faber Gravis series powered subwoofer (Gravis I/Gravis II) for an even more immersive listening experience with bigger, deeper, and more impactful bass.
