Video: Pro-Ject Debut Carbon turntable

Hey this is JR, I'm here today with the pro-ject debut carbon turntable. This is a wonderful turntable, and I can tell you that from experience. I own one of these, and it sounds great, it also looks great and is available in five different colors. This is the gloss red, there's also a glossy black, glossy white, and a walnut and a silver, so whatever your taste I'm sure you can get one that looks good in your home.

Looking over our customers reviews on this, there's a lot and they're consistently really good, though some of the things that make this a better turntable than what you may be experiencing with your hundred, $200 turntables that are out there, this is a cut above. Heavier-duty, the motor is separated from the platter to give you less vibration, less noise in the quietest, cleanest sound you can get.

So there's a couple things they do to make that possible. For example, a one-piece carbon fiber tone arm which reduces vibration. The cartridge is already attached, that's one thing you don't have to do upon set up. The platter is steel and it's heavy. There's good stainless steel bearings in there that are nice and quiet. All of this is a cut above what you might experience with your normal regular turntable, and you will notice a difference in how quiet and clean it plays.

Some specs for you if you're interested in that, wow and flutter is plus or minus 2.1%, signal to noise ratio is at 68 DB with channel separation of greater than 22 dB. That may not mean a lot to me if you don't know all about specs, but if you do look at the rest of the turntables available this is a really high performing turntable, especially for the money.

Alright, let's talk about setting it up and hooking it up. There are a few things you're going to have to do when you take this pro-ject debut carbon out of the box before you can start playing a record on it. Now there's turntables that might require hours of setup, this is not going to require that, so few simple steps to get it play records. You're going to have to attach the belt from the motor to the pulley, that's what turns the platter.

We'll be attaching the platter, it was just setting it on the base and putting the felt pad on top of the platter. You will need to adjust to set the balance of the tonearm and the tracking force, and then you'll attach a small anti-skate plate which keeps everything nice and stable. It really doesn't take that long, not all that hard, and if you have any questions on how to do it our tech support department can help you with that.

Now far as hooking it up cuz there are a nice set of gold-plated RCA jacks on the back, so you can really use any RCA cable, but it does come with a nice one that includes a ground wire which you do want to hook up to your preamp for your receiver, whatever you're connecting it to. It does not include a built-in phono preamp. A phono preamp is necessary for any turntable. The phono preamp can either be built into the turntable, it can be built into the gear you're hooking it up to like your receiver or preamp, or you can buy a dedicated separate phono preamp cuz it's not built into the turntable itself.
